Obama Asks Students for 'Amen'
Weekly Standard ^ | 4/24/12 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 04/24/2012 11:02:07 AM PDT by Nachum

At an event at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, President Barack Obama tried to rouse the crowd by asking for an "amen."

"The fact is that since most of you were born, tuition and fees at America's colleges have more than doubled," Obama said. "And that forces students like to take out a lot more loans, there are fewer grants, you rack up more debt. Can I get an 'amen'?"

The students responded: "Amen!"

Obama continued: “The average student who borrows to pay for college now graduates with about $25,000 in student loan debt—that’s the average, some are more. Can I get an ‘amen’ for that?”

"Amen," the students responded.

They do it by signing wherever told to by people interested in maximizing someone else's debt. "What school do you want to attend? What degree do you want to get? OK, sign here."

My wife & I together managed 5 degrees (Ivy League included) for under $100K, debt-free. If you take time to THINK and RESEARCH, you can go so far as getting the school to pay you.

If you're paying list price for a degree, you're doing it wrong.

Isaiah 65:16

"That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes."

Both these words that are translated "truth" are the Hebrew word "amen".

Thus, it is declaring this by the God of Amen, the Jehovah God who cannot lie (Titus 1:2). In this context this word is expressing God's faithfulness. That He alone is the Amen, the God of truth.

Indeed, the Lord is the very essence of truth. So by comparing scripture with scripture and allowing it to be its own dictionary and interpreter, we can come to sound conclusions about what words really mean in scripture. By looking at the contexts where words are used, we can see that Amen is defined as truth. And not only in the Old Testament, this understanding of the word continues to be made manifest in the New Testament as well.

-—Can your daughter go to a Christian college for the teaching degree?-—

Can’t afford it. We homeschooled and have no money saved for college. Not complaining, just saying.

I’ve prepared her to take F’s if necessary. She’s ready to do battle. 8-)

If we could afford it, I would have preferred that she go to Steubenville or Christendom.

So, rather than do something to reduce the vastly inflated tuition costs, Obama’s answer to have American taxpayers start footing the bill.

Exactly! I contend the reason for spiraling education costs is the fact that everyone now borrows. We should make it HARDER to get a student loan, not easier. This would force students to shop for an education with at least SOME consideration towards cost. This will force colleges to start controlling costs.

Atheists are not a-theists, they are a-Christian.

It’s OK to worship anything, even 0bama, as long as it isn’t Christ.

-—If nothing else, it’s certified proof she can take on a complex multi-year project involving lots of people and finish it.——

That’s true, but it’s still not worth $30k and 4 years of lost work experience. My sister went to a pricey teacher college and I read her books...

The high school-educated sisters of yesteryear, who taught classes of 50 kids, did pretty darn well. They only lacked the ability to diagnose learning disabilities. And those skills can be learned very quickly.

[shrug] Self-assess and plan accordingly. Education is free; certification is expensive. If you’re not going to pay for proof of competency, then make the equivalent portfolio.

One mistake too many (self included) make/made: starting at the bottom and following the standard process (which, among other things, requires degree certification). Forget going in the front door, start by _building_ that door. Every kid should start a business before graduating high school: they then understand they can be their own boss, and already have a starting point to build from - rather than starting as mere peon to others under arbitrary rules.

I fully understand. I am paying for our niece's (2) home school costs and will help pay for any Christian conservative college. With extended family they will not have debt as graduates.

I’ve prepared her to take F’s if necessary. She’s ready to do battle.

Won't be necessary. If she can see through the indoctrination to get F's, she doesn't have to tell 'em so, just ignore it in her heart.

As she will teach in a Catholic school, she can ignore the indoctrination and teach the truth, and get along just fine.

Not so with a public school, failure to indoctrinate Marxism and secularism will get her fired, but then we both know that California public school is child abuse.

What a divisive con man!

So what does this communist thug propose exactly?

Does he not realize that the easy credit, just like homes, is what drives up tuitions since the school know the idiots can borrow any amount of money?

I hate this ghetto marxist street thug more every day. ABO!!!!!

I remember when Hillary was even “reduced” to using religious terminology. Even to the extent, while in KY, tried to fake a KY accent.

These people are pathetic disingenuous frauds and slugs. Obama would have been better off just asking for a “seig heil”—it would have been more apt.
