Rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent pleaded guilty Tuesday to transporting a black bear he illegally killed in Alaska.

With his plea, Nugent followed through with a signed agreement he made with federal prosecutors earlier this month.

A judge approved the deal at a U.S. District Court hearing in the southeast Alaska town of Ketchikan. Nugent and his attorney participated by telephone.

Asked by Magistrate Judge Michael Thompson if the agreement was clear, Nugent responded: "It is with me, your honor."

The guitarist and singer, who also is an avid hunter, later apologized for his actions and said he would "never knowingly break any game laws."

According to the document, Nugent illegally shot and killed the bear in May 2009 on Sukkwan Island in southeast Alaska after wounding another bear in a bow hunt. The bow incident counted toward a state seasonal limit of one bear.

I wish he were a little more outspoken.

Just because you wound a deer...doesn't make you a bad hunter.

Of course you are correct. I have missed 2x and had one "bad" shot. But I've only taken 6 deer in my whole life. I have never "lost" a deer though. I did gut shoot one that hopped on me as I squeezed one off. I was able to track her as she headed to the deepest (altitude) area of the forest. She made me pay for that shot. Getting her out of the woods was like BUDS training (I can only imagine and facetiously speaking).

The bad hunter comment was self incriminating in a way. I felt lousy for having not gotten a clean kill and my penance was getting her properly field dressed and out of the woods. Only a hunter would understand that part about properly field dressing after a gut shot (yucky).

You are of course a much better hunter than myself.

3 out of 6...is to be commended in some circles.

Thanks..for your honesty.

Whoa! :o) That's 6 out of 8 that I took where a shot was fired. One was a less than desirable shot. One missed shot broke a 1/2" branch at the 20 yd mark. The other miss I have never been able to explain. In Indiana we use Shotties, bow, handcannons or muzzies. So we have to get in close. No rifles. I use an old 20 GA Mossberg with cheap slugs through a smooth barrel. 50 yds is about the limit for a clean kill shot with that gun.

All that said, I have watched and not taken shots at dozens of deer. Either they didn't make their way into range or I couldn't get a confident kill shot.

I do love hunting. It is a strategic and patient game of bonding with nature.
