A racially charged beating of a white Alabama man by a throng of African-Americans is not being investigated as a hate crime, despite one witness' claim that she heard an assailant exclaim: "Now that's justice for Trayvon."
Matthew Owens, of Mobile, Ala., was assaulted with baseball bats, paint cans and other weapons at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday after telling a group of children to stop playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive, according to Ashley Rains, public information officer for the Mobile Police Department.
After the children left the area, a group of adults armed with weapons returned and confronted Owens, 40, in his front yard, where he was assaulted. Owens' sister, Ashley Parker, told WKRG she witnessed the attack and that there were as many as 20 assailants. Parker said she overheard one of them say, "Now that's justice for Trayvon."
Asked if the incident was being investigated as a hate crime, Rains replied: "No, it's not. It's being investigated as an assault."

The sad thing about this is it WILL bring about “revenge” from some real live racists. I know we’re all getting enough of this crap but we have to keep our heads about it. We just need to be prepared in case it happens to us. Prepared like Zimmerman was.
I do wonder how many neighbors watched and did nothing.
Whether we should have hate crimes at all, or just very heavy gang enhancers to the basic charge of aggravated assault is another topic. But, a 20 on 1 beatdown isn't just a neighborhood disagreement out of hand.
That's because we hate them so much.
I heard that they were shouting
“Random beatdown! Random beatdown!”
Hate crimes work in one direction only.
And please explain exactly why this is suprising to anyone, either black or white?

A racially-motivated mob beat a Mobile, Alabama, man so severely on the evening of April 21 that he is now in critical condition at an area hospital. Mobile police report that Matthew Owens spoke to some neighborhood children playing basketball in the middle of the street at 8:30 PM on Delmar Drive in Mobile. After the children left, a mob consisting mostly of adults returned, armed with chairs, pipes and paint cans.
According to local media, Owen’s sister Ashley Parker saw the mob attack her brother. “It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed,” said Parker. The victim’s sister described the mob as consisting of approximately 20 African-American adults who attacked Owens on the front porch of his house. Some of the assailants used brass knuckles in the beat-down, and “anything else they could get their hands on,” said Parker. Police say “multiple people” are involved. Owens is suffering from severe trauma to his head.
Another witness to the vicious beating, who wishes to remain anonymous, described the onset of the assault on Owens. “I just kept hearing him screaming, ‘Man, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, man don’t do this,’ “ he recalled. According to the anonymous witness, when he heard his friend Owens at the door, he thought it was a joke. “Then I saw about 10 to 15 people from little kids and women with dresses to adult men, just flooding onto the property, surrounding the car, hollering and screaming,” he said. “And then I heard Matthew saying, ‘ I’m sorry, man, I’m sorry. I’m sorry.’ And then, the next thing, before I could get to the door, because we have it all deadbolted and everything, and before I could get it open, I heard all the beating and banging.”
Tensions were already high in the Delmar Drive neighborhood because of disputes over children and youths using portable goals for playing basketball in the street. This is a practice that has been banned elsewhere in the U.S. The beating has left neighbors fearful of retribution. Owen’s friend who witnessed the beating said, “Oh, my God. ..He was laying on the ground full of blood. I mean, it was horrible. His head, everything. Blood was pouring from his head, both sides. And his whole body was drenched in blood.”
Reflecting the current climate of inter-ethnic tension in the United States, Parker alleged that one member of the mob said before walking away “Now that’s justice for Trayvon.” Trayvon Martin is the unarmed teenager police allege was shot and killed February 26 by George Zimmerman, who has been variously described in the media as ‘white’ or ‘Hispanic,’ in Samford, Florida. The Florida killing sparked multitudinous marches and flaming rhetoric from African-American political leaders such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. President Barack Obama entered the fray when, expressing sorrow for the teen’s death, said of Trayvon Martin “He could have been my son.”
No suspects have been apprehended following the Mobile incident.

Well, whites in that neighborhood have learned not to complain about black activities.
I’m surprised it’s not being considered an unsuccessful suicide attempt. Why, to even insunate a group of Black folk attacking and beating a White man is just ‘crazy talk’.
I didn’t call anyone a racist. And I certainly didn’t call any rational people racist. I’m talking about people like the guy in Oklahoma.
If you think someone who loses it and goes out and shoots a black man just for being black is rational, you’re the problem.
If it wasn’t a hate crime, what was the motivation of 20 black people in beating him up?
And they wonder why Trayvon Martin got shot.
It was a lynching. You get people ganging up on you like that and trying to kill you then it is a lynching. When do a gang of white people do this kind of wolf pack beat down? I can’t think of any in recent years but the black on white version is frequent though under reported by the main stream media
Another suggestion: Use your cell phone to take photos and videos of any assaults you witness.
These animals need to be caught, arrested, tried and executed. See, I can sound just like the Black Panthers. And how could they criticize my plan because it just mimics theirs....well except for the part where I put a bounty on the head of each of the thugs who beat this man.

Which is why Holder’s boss has to be removed in November, and I don’t care who doesn’t like Romney.
I heard it was “Group Hug! Group Hug!” and poor Owens was just overwhelmed by the love and kumbayah-ery, that he checked himself into the hospital. /s
It was a decent neighborhood of nice smaller homes until Holder’s people took it over. I have a friend that has lived there for about 30years and can’t find a buyer. There have been some serious violence there. A man was gunned down with a spray of automatic weapons fire a few years ago about three houses down from my friend.
It’s pretty comical, actually (ignoring the seriousness of the story for a moment). I mean, people thought at first that Zimmerman may have used the word “coon” and they wanted to call it a hate crime. But in this case the evidence is overwhelming that it was about race, but it’s not a hate crime.
So, why did they assault him, anyway?
Duh, only white people (or white-hispanics) can hate.
I seem to remember some folks caught on video outside of a polling place, brandishing weapons and threatening people with racial epithets, and absolutely nothing being done about it.
Of course this wasn’t a hate crime...and I’m Napoleon Bonaparte.
The more of this $hit that keeps happening, the more that racial tensions are going to rise. It is one thing (and bad enough) to give blacks a leg up in college admissions and job applications because of the treatment their forebearers received, but it is quite another to constantly have every white person labeled as a racist, and no black people when they nearly pummel a white guy to death, or stand in front of an election precinct with bats prohibiting white people from voting, etc., etc., etc. Hate exists on both sides, but when one is subjected to all of the blame, and the other is made to bear no responsibility, that’s just compressing the spring even further - and the rebound of that spring will be like nothing ever seen in this country if it isn’t managed the right way. If the one-way stuff doesn’t stop and then there are riots when Zimmerman is acquitted, EXPECT lots of resistance from the whites of this country.
Of course, that seems to be exactly what Fauxbama & Co. want - there’s simply no other explanation for the actions and lack of actions taken by this government in the last few years.

A local girl was murdered in my town by a group of “Eric Holder’s People” a few years ago. They claimed they shot her because “she bucked.” In other words, when they tried to grab her pocket book she instinctively tried to hang onto it. Can you imagine the temerity of a crime victim thinking that they had a right to keep their own property?
And that’s why if you are approached by Eric Holder’s People you better be prepared to make that instant decision to shoot. Then you can be hounded like George Zimmerman.
As an aside, I read somewhere that the preliminary toxicology tests showed drugs in the system of “that sweet little angel, trayvon.”
freepers know the score.....Only thing I have heard about Trayvon’s possible drugs in bloodstream at autopsy is that no drugs were found. That may have been disinformation

I think you are correct. Obama wants incidents he can use to bring out the police and security forces and claim the mantle of putting down racism as part of his reelection strategy.
Are you syaing that other blacks will seek revenge against these blacks? Because that is who real racists are.
And what is a neighbor supposed to do against 20 armed feral blacks besides get beaten or killed, arrested and charged with a hate crime, sued, and then have to worry about revenege from “real racists”?
We need to just eliminate all “hate crime” legislation. All it does is inject politics into the justice system.

Imagine if a crowd of 20 whites came after a black guy on his own property and beat him nearly to death. Think THAT would be a hate crime?
...or just get out of there, because even if it is a justified shooting, you will be railroaded like Zimmerman.

I guess the only thing you could do is fire a round off in the air and hope like hell they run. Otherwise are we supposed to look out the window and watch someone get beaten to death? I know in Texas if someone is breaking into your neighbor’s house you can use deadly force. It was done a few years ago and the old man who killed two Mexicans was not charged. So I’m sure you could use deadly force if your neighbor was being killed. Just make sure you got plenty of ammo and be prepared to stand 24 hour guard as long as you live there. Sad situation, huh.
