Former Miss America runs for Congress

Miss America 2003 Erika Harold will run for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in Illinois, she confirmed Monday.

Harold was an outspoken conservative during her reign as Miss America. She spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention.

A 2003 congressional resolution honoring her noted she has "remarkable achievements and her resolve to empower youth against violence and degradation."

Among her achievements, the resolution noted were her service as: •National spokesperson for the Teen Victims Project of the National Center for Victims of Crime; •National Spokesperson for Fight Crime: Invest in Kids; •National Advisory for Peace Games; •National Board of Directors for the Center of Youth as Resources; and •Advisory Council for the Empower Program.

Academically, Congress said, she was accepted into the Harvard School of Law, and "was named Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, and was named University of Illinois Chancellor Scholar."

The resolution "honors her for her vision, determination, and integrity; and recognizes her as a strong positive role model for youth in the United States."

Not all that excited about beauty queen in politics, especially after the advent of liquor, the video camera and Internet.

Good for her, running as a republican. Besides beauty, she has plenty upstairs.

The 'rats should run a Miss America too sometime. Presumably, someone who can say something about "U" "S" Americans.

The deformed face?

You deform your face every time you open your mouth.

Wait, didn't come out quite right.

Actually the media is just gearing up to give her the Cheney treatment. Anytime the media posted a picture of Dick Cheney, his mouth was open and his bottom teeth were showing, as if he were preparing to eat small children.

She would probably look a lot better without the dress.

Which district? This may be a long shot, but I’ll take any silver lining to the dark cloud that is Illinois.

She’s running in the district being vacated by fellow Republican Tim Johnson.

She must be talking about running in 2014. The filing deadline for Illinois for 2012 is long past.

I’m amazed at the number of women I see who wear clothes that appear to be made from material that was recovered from drapes, sofas, and throw-pillow covers. :-(
