I believe most atheists couldn't care less about monuments and memorials. The sight of a cross on a group's logo does not make them quake with rage. It's historical. It's part of the culture. They see such things as simply a part of society which doesn't necessarily apply to them.

Then you have the militant atheists. These fanatics are no different than any other extreme group. They are fixated on a single goal; removing the tiniest mention of religion, esp. Christianity, from even the most loosely affiliated government activity. Why would someone who doesn't believe in something be so worried that other people might? It isn't as if Christians are assaulting atheists in the streets and making their lives a living hell.

No, to borrow a Progressive term, these radical atheist groups are in fact Hate Groups. They hate God. They hate religion. They hate people who are religious. They hate ever having to hear anything related to religion. They must be some of the most miserable people alive. If they were truly happy why would they care so much if people perform their silly ceremonies and celebrations? No one is forcing them to acknowledge a high power. If the majority of people want to have a prayer the atheists can pause for a moment until the prayer is over. It only lasts a second or two. The religious people aren’t deeply offended that the atheists didn’t join in.

Maybe some atheists are mad because when people perform some little religious activity they feel left out. And they don’t like it! They don’t like feeling like an outsider! They don’t like being reminded they’re not a member of the group, a group which… they… didn’t.. want to belong to in the first place? OK. Now I’ve confused myself by trying to use reason to figure out how these nut-cases think.

I partially agree with your statement, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say they “hate religion.” They hate the Judeo-Christian religions ONLY. Show them a Buddhist statue, they couldn’t care less. Show them a Shinto shrine, watch them shrug. Hell, show them a mosque, they’ll probably beam with delight because it’s “multi-cultural.” Never mind that Islam looks upon them with hatred and condemns them to death, while we Christians seek to enlighten them and otherwise let them go on their way unmolested.

They really are hate groups. But these days, it’s very fashionable to hate the people of God. I guess it’s been that way for over three thousand years, really.

Just think, they’ll get an eternity in hell for their efforts. Now THAT is justice.

Atheists hate Christians (not Muslims, notice) with a religious zeal that is actually quite religious (by their own definition of the term).

The slow parade to hell continues as lucifer smiles.

The only thing I appreciate about these blind idiots is that they bring us closer to the second coming of our Lord. All Praise, Honor and Glory to His Holy Name.

The good news is, is that it appears that there is a movement underway to raise money and petition the City Council to declare the monument and adjacent area as “abandoned property.” The group would buy the monument and the limited area around it and it would no longer be “public” in the sense that the City wouldn’t own it and no taxpayer funds would go to maintain it.

People were calling in this morning to the Helen Glover Show on WHJJ (Providence) kicking this idea around and pledging funds. I know that I’ll be sending money..

The very best bet is to not let such scoundrel hide behind their organization in anonymity. Find out who they are, and let the public know who is spreading hate and their sick agenda. Much like cockroaches, shining a little light on them and they quickly scurry for cover.

They want to force their opinions on others, yet will be utterly surprised when others have opinions as well.

Gee...

Why doesn’t someone tell the angry atheists that there is a second monument dedicated to their deity that stands right next to the monument they hate.

Of course, their monument is made of “nothing” and is surmounted with a sculpture of “nothing”. Therefore, the atheists’ monument is completely in accord with their religion. Therefore, this arrangement of the TWO monuments is completely fair.

Not to sound like a street preacher, but...Judgment's coming for America. We were founded in God and have been given much.

And then we turned away and have taken God out of our schools, our government and would do MUCH better to get busy putting God back in in our nation's consciousness.

Before it's too late...can't you feel it?
