By now you have assuredly read, either from our team here in Texas or in the media, Newt will be suspending his presidential campaign effective May 1st. While we are all certainly disheartened by the news that our preferred candidate will no longer be vying for the Republican Nomination, we can be proud of the all the efforts put forth by this wonderful team we built together in Texas.
I would like to specifically thank some of you who went above and beyond in their efforts both to assist me and Newt. First, to Sondra Zeigler who travelled around various parts of the country, coordinated deployment and phone banking efforts and somehow found time to coordinate volunteer efforts in Lubbock. To Tammy Banks, who helped me so much in reaching out to volunteers throughout our great state and joined me at CTxPAC and staffed our booth. To Mike Pine, whose advice was invaluable and for keeping tabs on the fundraising intricacies. To Katrina Pearson, for all her efforts to assist us in our outreach to Tea Parties and putting together one of Newt's last visits to Texas. To Ed Wheeler and Gary Walters who did such a magnificent job in the phone bank and consitently kept Texaas at or near the top in those efforts. And, last but certainly not least, to Whitney Neal who never said "no" to any task or assignment that I asked of her, for reminding me not to forget whatever I was forgetting that day, for inspiration and generally being awesome.
Meeting and working with so many of you has been a pleasure and won't soon be forgotten. I look forward to seeing and speaking to many of you soon. I leave you with this quote:
"The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."
Larry Welsh Texas Grassroots Director - Newt 2012
Obama is lazy, narcissistic, socialist, big government promoter, clueless on how to grow economy, apologizer in chief, wastes time playing golf (100 rounds so far) when country is facing serious problems, Solyndra, Arizona immigration, Fast & Furious, against Keystone & domestic energy production, anti-Israel, pro-Muslim, America divider, and wastes tax payer money by endless vacations on Air Force One and weekly parties at the White House.
If you supported Newt, or worked for him, now is not the time to think about having to support Romney. Now is time to relax a little, reflect, and, if your heart is hurting, like mine is, give it time to heal. And it will. And the day will come when you're ready to fight again. It isn't over, it is just going to be different. God Bless.
Stuart Townsend, My God, He heals the broken...
I’m still not giving the Republican Socialist, Romney, my vote. Take what you will from me, but I won’t willingly give up my last shred of personal integrity.
I refuse to be a party to what he’s about to do in our name.
Both political parties are competing for the voters who are dependent on government for their incomes and for preventions against any new private sector competition (anti-family, anti-rights policies).
Those same voters are morally bankrupt, as their rackets will also be bankrupt soon. Cut personal spending while encouraging the political/regulator class to spend more. Starve the B. Send her to repudiation and currency adjustment.
Then youll see small government. And printing dollars into worthlessness wouldnt save her evil, socialist empire, because worthless is worthless. Do some real work. Become more self-sufficient. Reject political correctness.
You said both parties are competing for the same voters, I don't even think there are 2 parties, just a blurry mess, with some distinctions and differences. They are all motivated by their need for power and to control it.
My heart just breaks over this news about Newt.
I just feel I’m out in limbo somewhere. I don’t even want to read or care about politics anymore.
I am more and more convinced this country is just lost and there’s really no turning back.
But I can’t convince anyone around me. Not my husband even, or my family.
What’s it going to take to convince everyone of their foolishness and blindness?
I’ve always admired Gingrich, since the 90’s and always will. WE will never see another politician like him again ...and as a country, we will have just WASTED this man’s brilliance once again.
I just really have no more words to express my disgust.
I refuse to be a party to what hes about to do in our name.
I don't know if this is really the best time to think about that now... there is time for a little breather before that sort of grappling. If you know anyone in the active military, close enough to you to talk honestly with you, ask them what they think of Obama, and what they think he will accomplish in the next 4 years if he is re-elected. And how exactly do they feel about that?
That is my springboard for supporting Romney. Too many young military at risk if Obama gets enamored again of the notion he can change the world...
On May 1st?
Newt’s a Kommie?
Nevuh woulduh Guessed...
Looks like America will muddle through until we get a real leader up in 2016.
Six weeks ago, I started thinking about how conservatives can respond IF romney is elected... and started talking to people a little, and the consensus was this whole debacle could possibly be the best wake-up call the conservative republicans have ever gotten.
In January, we can begin the framework of a movement to primary Romney, which may or may not have an effect on the way he governs. And the need to decide on ONE candidate out the gate will be essential... I doubt Newt would run again but he sure would like to be involved doing what he does best, teaching and inspiring a whole new generation of young conservatives...
So here’s the big question: Now that Newt’s out, and therefore won’t be going to the convention, what happens to the “Anyone-but-Romney” crowd? The leader of this board has emphatically stated that he will under no circumstances support Romney, and many here agree with him. Now that Romney is all that’s left between the country and another four (or more) years of The Won, does that now mean Free Republic will be supporting Obama (as the only one left other than Romney)?
More seriously, do we just look to the down-ballot nominees and hope for the best? Do we stay home? Hold our noses and vote Romney anyway? Write in Sarah Palin (knowing no one in the “establishment” will care)? Vote Ron Paul?
I’ve even heard/read that some here will actually vote for Obama on the premise that the disaster he will wreak will create fertile ground for a truly conservative candidate in 2016, or that America needs to finally learn the lesson that the current breed of Democrats are not fit to lead the country.
I’m not trying to be flippant. I seriously want to know what will happen, now that the race is down to the disastrous incumbent and the candidate this site has sworn never to vote for.
I have always thought that Newt has a very subtle sense of humor.
Gingrich earned my respect.
I wuz trying to get the humor of it but couldn’t make it.
I do see the point but “Ain’t Funny!! Man!!!”
My apologies, Vendome.
I will get my sense of humor back in a few days, and I love your tag line!
Actually the military stays very on top of all STDs, and just about any member of any unit can tell you what their STD percentage rate is... it is that ongoing and participatory.
If Obama decides he wants to use the US Military as his personal building block set, sending young Americans around the world to help reshape the Middle East, it is going to be beyond belief in terms of suffering, sacrifice, stupidity, and chaos.
I donot believe Romney hates the military, like Obama does. I have searched this out and will continue to... for that reason alone I will work to defeat Obama...including voting for Mitt if that doesn't change... Of course, I am a newt supporter, and still believe the outcome is not set in stone yet...
And you think Romney will treat our troops any better than his brother in arms in the White House? Dream on.
No one in Romney's family tree has ever served.
You gotta really do this kindergarten style, if you would, because I have no idea what you are talking about. I am sure it's my fault, I am just obtuse tonight... :)
The next four years oughta do it. Nearly everyone will be a patriot come next election. If we can hold the republic together that long.
