Iran readying hacker attacks on U.S. infrastructure, specialists say
The Washington Times ^ | 4/25/12 | Shaun Waterman

Iran is recruiting a hacker army to target the U.S. power grid, water systems and other vital infrastructure for cyberattack in a future confrontation with the United States, security specialists will warn Congress Thursday. "Elements of the IRGC [Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps] have openly sought to pull hackers into the fold" of a religiously motivated cyberarmy, according to Frank J. Cilluffo, director of the Homeland Security Policy Institute at George Washington University.

Lawmakers from two House Homeland Security subcommittees will hold a joint hearing Thursday about the cyberthreat posed by Iran, as tensions over Tehran's nuclear program continue at a high level, and a possible Israeli strike looms. The Washington Times obtained advance copes of witnesses' prepared testimony. In his remarks, Mr. Cilluffo says that, in addition to the recruiting by the IGRC, another extremist militia, the Basij, "are paid to do cyber work on behalf of the regime, [and] provide much of the manpower for Iran's cyber-operations." Both militias are believed to be under the control of Iran's clerical leadership, headed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei.

Two Revolutionary Guard leaders have been indicted by U.S.prosecutors for their part in an alleged conspiracy to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States by bombing a prominent Washington restaurant. "Over the past three years, the Iranian regime has invested heavily in both defensive and offensive capabilities in cyberspace," states testimony from Ilan Berman, vice president of the hawkish American Foreign Policy Council, in his remarks for Thursday's hearing. Estimates of the skill level of Iran's hacker army vary, but Mr. Cilluffo points out that there is a veritable "arms bazaar of cyberweapons" currently accessible through the Internet hacker underworld. "Adversaries do not need capabilities, just intent and cash," he states.

Do you think Nat Gas will function and distribute countrywide after any EMP ? Are there not valves/switches in the pipelines that are controlled with computer gear. I don’t have faith that anybody has tested the ‘gas-grid’ for EMP integrity

Nor do I have faith that the controllers for the natural gas pipeline system won't be specifically targeted by a people who had Stuxnet to use as a bitter example.

Like I said, it will run on propane as well.
Do you think an EMP attack to be likely?

More likely than a local ice storm or a national economic collapse?

Besides, is your GENERATOR EMP-proof?

No, they’re living in the basement of our WH under the guise of Czar of Something or Dept. of Whatever. We have more to fear from the Resident of Terror than we do from Iran.

I have thought this for years. That is why we should have stricter control of the people getting into this country. Who knows how many are already here?

They belong to ‘Sleeper Cells’.

I have very little faith in any Government agency stopping them.

I no longer have faith in anyone in power doing what’s best for America.

Keep your powder dry, folks.

They don’t. All they seem to care about is staying in power as long as they can. They rarely believe what they tell voters. Most seem to hate this country with a passion. I just do not understand why people continue to elect these thugs. There was a thread on here about the communists in office. I knew that years ago but when I tried to tell people, they just thought I was kooky. People had better wake up but I doubt if they will.

Every natural gas compressor station is run from a PLC. In the event of a loss of electricity the nat gas back-up generator will power the station via the UPS until ESD then the station will be off-line.

Matter of minutes to half an hour. I doubt a single generator is EMP proof.

They must think themselves immune to the disaster they’re bringing on. They must have islands in the south Pacific where they can take refuge.

The next revolution in America, if we have one, will resemble the French Revolution.

The biggest problem is muslims INSIDE America with I.T. access.

Hacking efforts from the outside go on continually, mostly out of China, eastern Europe and some mideast.

If some bozo muslim working at a water plant, etc., executes a well-planned plot of course they could cause problems.

Whatever the problems, there is a clean up/fix etc. and we move on.

The root of the problem is that much of our government and private sector leadership is in bed with islam.
