WASHINGTON -- Washington, D.C., police say a tourist from Denver may have been beaten to death by a serial attacker who clubbed two other people over the head within 26 hours in the same northwest area of the nation's capital.
Starting with the Tuesday evening slaying of 66-year-old Gary Dederichs, a retired Denver nurse, two other people apparently walking alone were attacked in the same 10-block radius, Metropolitan D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said at a Thursday afternoon news conference.
"It appears that the victims may have been attacked suddenly and without provocation," Lanier said. Police have found no clear motive, including robbery, in the attacks.
While police haven't confirmed the same person is responsible for the attacks, Lanier said, among the similar traits, "All three of the victims did suffer pretty significant blunt force trauma to the head." Lanier said she went public once investigators confirmed the similarity in the attacks to warn residents there could be an attacker preying on people walking alone in the city.
The chief said officers will be knocking on doors in the area on Thursday night to make residents aware of the attacks, and she encouraged the public to report any suspicious people or incidents to police.
"Since it appears that all these individuals were alone at the time, we are asking that residents in the area walk in pairs or in groups when at all possible," Lanier said.
Dederichs' battered body was found in an alley in the northwest part of the city about 6 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
I always walk with a group...Smith and Wesson always enjoy a breath of fresh air.
I think Smith and Wesson are stilled banned out on the streets together in DC ...
Denver still plagued by brutal racially motivated attacks.
Late last year, police arrested 38 blacks for racially motivated attacks on white and Latino pedestrians. The attacks have started again .
From Denver Post, December 2009
The Denver Police Department arrested 32 men and juvenile boys after a months-long undercover investigation into what police said were racially motivated assaults and robberies in downtown Denver, including the LoDo entertainment district.
A task force composed of Denver police, the FBI and the Denver district attorneys office investigated 26 incidents in which groups of black males verbally harassed, assaulted and at times robbed white or Latino males, according to Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman.
All of the suspects are young black males, most of whom told police they were associated with either the Rollin 60s Crips gang or the Black Gangster Disciples gang.
They are charged with varying counts of bias-motivated assault and, in some cases, robbery all felony crimes.
Motive Unclear In Attack By Group Of Teens On 16th Street Mall September 15, 2011 11:56 AM
DENVER (CBS4) Police are asking for the publics help tracking down a large group of violent teenagers. They say 10 to 15 young people described as black or Hispanic and both male and female attacked four white men on the 16th Street Mall at about 10:45 p.m. on Sunday.
In 2009 a similar series of attacks took place near downtown, on the 16th Street Mall and in surrounding areas. The victims were usually white or Hispanic and the suspects were black. Surveillance video captured one of the attacks on camera.
Large parts of DC are too dangerous for white people to walk in alone.
‘Police have found no clear motive, including robbery, in the attacks.’-———
Kill them one, two, three at a time, any way you can,- comes to mind.
It was the Fatwa that was issued.
Who the heck wrote this article? “Serial attacker”? First of all, if he is a serial killer, he would need to have killed at least four victims, which this article contradicts. Also, serial killers do not generally attack many victims in quick succession, rather, they operate in cycles of greater and lesser activity, often with weeks and months between attacks.
This perp would more properly be called a “spree killer”, or maybe a “spree assaulter” or something, since it seems he may not be intending to kill his victims.
