Tremendous blowback from not just Minnesota, but the entire country. Will have to make sure they don't try to slide this through in a different piece of legislation, but for now it's a good thing.

I searched, didn't see this news posted.

Good news, but I’m still livid at the very thought.

You can't imagine how PO'ed my neighbors were about this.

Calls were made

Even the liberal frenchman was livid in a nuanced kind of way. But they never would have known if I hadn't read it here on FR and printed out an article for them to read.

From the article: Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn, released a statement expressing relief about the withdrawal of the rule, which he said "would have had a negative impact on our state's ag community."

This was about shaping the future of farming where the only people doing it will be THE GOVERNMENT.

.. What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest,
had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? ..

The Department of Labor backed off the rule in February. The department now said it will not pursue the regulation again during Pres. Barack Obama's administration.

Yeah...they'll try this again...

Blowback from thousands? Actually this reads more like blowback from 0bama and them stirring up a hornets nest during an election year.

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.” - Ayn Rand, ‘Atlas Shrugged’ 1957

King: Obama Administration Finally Caves on Youth Farm Labor

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Washington, DC- Congressman Steve King (R-IA) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that it will withdraw its proposed rule to prohibit young people from working on family farms and participating in agriculture education programs including Future Farmers of America and 4-H.

“Once again President Obama’s overreaching policies have outraged the American people,” said King. “I’m happy to see the backlash surrounding this rule has prompted the Department of Labor to withdraw the proposed rule. The Department of Agriculture collaborated with the Department of Labor on this direct assault of American family farms. Family farms are the core of American culture, and for centuries they have played a large role in instilling a strong work ethic in young people. I know because I raised my three sons in rural Iowa and taught them the value of hard work.”

“I’m pleased to have had the support of many farm families as I’ve worked to oppose this rule in order to ensure that young people will still have the same opportunities. This policy was not only unnecessary, it threatened the very way of life that I and so many others hold dear. When will President Obama realize that his out of touch policies do not reflect the values of the American people? His actions continue to show that he is disconnected with the people in the heartland of this great country.”

He's 80+ and grew up on a farm under Nazi occupation. They took his pet pig for a BBQ. Not only is he as provincial and pig headed as a french farm brat could be, he's a flaming liberal.

But sometimes.... Sometimes... he remembers life under the Nazis. I think that's why he made the call.

Code for they will ram it down farmers throats if obama is re-elected. It’s just a temporary backoff until they can slip it unnoticed into some other legislation.
