(CNSNews.com) - Vice President Joe Biden said that when he was first elected to the U.S. Senate back in 1972, his view of U.S. military commanders was epitomized by actor Slim Pickens in the movie “Dr. Strangelove,” riding an atomic bomb like a cowboy and “yelling yippee-ki-yay!”
In a campaign speech focusing on foreign policy, delivered at New York University on Thursday, Biden said he ran for the Senate in 1972 “because I thought the policy we had in Vietnam, I didn't argue it as immoral, but I thought it just didn't make sense, the notion of dominoes and so on and so forth."
“And I came to Washington as a 29-year-old kid," said Biden. "I got elected. Before I was eligible to serve, I had to literally wait to be sworn in because I wasn’t eligible under the Constitution. You must be 30 years old. And my image of the military commanders at the time was, if you ever saw that old movie, if you ever rented it, where Slim Pickens is on the back of an atom bomb, dropping out of an aircraft, yelling, yippee-ki-yay! And 'Dr. Strangelove' was the movie.”

So, let’s see, this bum went to DC in ‘72, that means he’s been there 40 years. And, what kind of a difference has he made? The place is more of a cesspool than ever. He joins an Administration that has no record of accomplishment other than having bankrupted the country and divided it along political, racial, and economic lines in a manner never seen before except perhaps during the Civil War. So he’s been in DC for two generations of humankind doing what? Basically running his mouth.
Looks like the limit is only to actually "serve" - not to get elected.
Except for the fact that this guy was talented, amusing and interesting.
Little piece of trivia: In the movie, as Slim is describing the contents of the survival kits they all have, he says, “Shoot, a feller could have a pretty good time in Vegas with all this stuff.” But watch his lips. He really says “Dallas”, not “Vegas”.
The movie was released right after the assassination of JFK and they felt “Dallas” would be grossly inappropriate.
Still, one of my all time favorite movies.
Oh, and yeah, Biden is an idiot.

I see the same thing. It is scary. This is the fruit of the encroaching welfare state. Indoctrination for education, conformity of PC thought under the guise of critical thought, the acquiescence of serfdom and the almost complete lack of focused ambition for anything other than government handouts. They own the schools. It won’t change until they do.

Would complete my master's degree within a year, while completing my tour as a battery commander.
My favorite nickname? "The Old Man", of course. Not for my prematurely graying hair, but the nickname ascribed to a unit commander.
