Tigers outfielder Delmon Young was arrested for hate crime assault in New York City early Friday morning. The Associated Press reports that Young attacked a group of men while yelling anti-Semitic epithets.

From the AP: Police say Young was standing outside of the Hilton New York, not far from Times Square. A group of about four Chicago tourists staying there were approached by a panhandler wearing a yarmulke. As the group walked up to the hotel doors, Young started yelling anti-Semitic epithets. Police say it's not clear who he was yelling at, but he got into a tussle with one of the Chicago group, who sustained scratches to his elbows

A hate crime AND his race wasn’t mentioned. For those of us not into baseball it means one thing: he’s black. If he had been white his race would have been mentioned - or the color of his hair - or a picture would have been printed....

There’s no such thing as a hate crime. I refuse to give it credibility even if the left does.

Fact is that young was drunk and got into a fight, the end.

Age is starting to catch up with Brandon Inge but he’s been a great all around athlete.

I know people who have met him and they say he doesn’t carry himself like a pro ball player. He’s just a regular guy who loves playing the game.

Can you imagine Lou Gehrig or Ernie Banks being arrested for an assault/hate crime?

I could imagine Ty Cobb being arrested for an assault/hate crime. He was one of the most despicable human beings to ever play MLB.

Alan Trammel “negotiated” his own contracts with the Tigers management. For the last few years of his career, it was on a yearly basis usually the first day after the end of the season.

Cobb was no angel, but I don't think he is quite the monster people made him out to be.
