Remember the beatdown Richard King, former West Point cadet, allegedly got at the hands of Patti LaBelles bodyguard Efren Holmes and her son Zuri Edwards at a Houston airport? Well, a federal judge granted Zuri Edwards approval to file a third-party complaint against Continental Airlines for allegedly overserving alcohol to Richard King before the altercation occurred. Richard King sued Patti LaBelle, whose real name is Patricia Edwards, in state court last June claiming she ordered her bodyguards to attack him because he was standing too close to her luggage at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Besides LaBelle, King named her son/bodyguard Zuri Edwards, and two of her other bodyguards involved in the fight, Efren Holme and Jane Doe, as defendants in his state suit alleging assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and defamation.
The case was removed to federal court where Edwards brought a counterclaim against King for assault, and LaBelle brought a counterclaim against him for intentional infliction of emotional distress due to his alleged racial slurs, and profanity during the incident.
Edwards subsequently filed a motion seeking to file a third party complaint against Continental Airlines. Edwards claims that because the airline kept serving King alcohol despite his obvious intoxication it is liable to him for the damage King inflicted. Or if he is compelled to pay King any settlement that Continental must contribute to it, or indemnify him.
U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison granted Edwards motion in a ruling he issued Wednesday.King filed no response to Edwards motion. Edwards did not unduly delay filing the motion, and Edwards proposed third-party complaint has substance because it asserts claims directly against Continental based on injuries to Edwards, and also requests contribution and/or indemnity, Ellison wrote. http://www.courthousenews.com/2012/02/10/43772.htm
Surprised this King's lawsuite has not been dropped yet as once "racism" is charged then everything else is justified.
You need a program to keep track of all the people and issues in that mess. I’m diagramming it out.
Never heard of this one before.
LOL! Sorry, I can’t help but laugh. If this isn’t ‘deflecting blame’ I don’t know what is.
He uttered a racial epithet? Off with his head!
He easily could have uttered a racial epithet in response to being hit in the head. As if that is a greater crime than the beating.
Disgusting. She’s trying the old tactic of “I can pay my lawyers to drag this out until you are bankrupt” trick. Hopefully the jury will make her regret it.
“Its clear Patti Edward’s punks beat the hell out of this kid for no visible reason.”
There was a reason: Justice for Trayvon!
Dionne Warwick’s psychic friends must have clued the LaBelles in ahead of time.
Nowadays, even thinking about race while being hit in the head is a crime. But that only applies if you're white or, in some cases, a white Hispanic. I'm researching the ramifications of being a White Asian or a White Black, but don't yet have enough data to make a pronouncement.
