As many as 100 high school students walked out of a national journalism conference after an anti-bullying speaker began cursing, attacked the Bible and reportedly called those who refused to listen to his rant “pansy asses.”
The speaker was Dan Savage, founder of the “It Gets Better” project, an anti-bullying campaign that has reached more than 40 million viewers with contributors ranging from President Obama to Hollywood stars. Savage also writes a sex advice column called “Savage Love.”
Savage, and his husband, were also guests at the White House for President Obama’s 2011 LGBT Pride Month reception. He was also invited to a White House anti-bullying conference.
Savage was supposed to be delivering a speech about anti-bullying at the National High School Journalism Conference sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association. But it turned into an episode of Christian-bashing.

I remember that. Dan Savage wrote (bragged) about licking doorknobs at the campaign office, so that people would become sick.
Savage is cruising for dates.
Irony, as usual, is completely lost on such people.
But a very revealing moment. Far too often, people on the Left are opposed to [name the issue: slavery, discrimination, bullying, whatever]...ONLY FOR THEMSELVES AND PEOPLE WHO THINK LIKE THEMSELVES. This is how people can demand the criminalization of the use of the n-word...while blaring the word out of their car speakers at 110 db.
This is how one typically finds "staunch opponents of capital punishment" calling for the assassination of Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin.
Dan Savage is many horrid things. And one of the horrid things that he is, is a bully.
To have him speak against bullying is like inviting RuPaul to speak against cross-dressing, to have Ted Nugent speak against hunting, Willie Nelson give an anti-pot address, Bill Ayers to speak for peace, Queen Elizabeth to call for an end to monarchy, Paula Deen against butter.
You need to get him involved, make him see that just sitting around and being depressed just helps the oppressors win.
He needs to go door to door this summer for some candidate of his choice. It doesn’t need to be a person running for President or Senator or even Congress (although ALL congress critters are up for re-election this year, so your grandson’s got at least on race in his area); just GET INVOLVED.
Besides, he’s young, he’s got the energy and stamina that us older people wish we still had.
Sign him up here, at the very least. Especially if he’s serious-minded. He’ll like it!
