Sunday column thread.

Indian lore will play OK in her ‘tribe’
By Howie Carr | Sunday, April 29, 2012 | | Columnists

There’s an old saying in the Indian Nation: When accused of being a fake Indian, go on the warpath.

And so we have Granny Warren, the carpetbagging Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate doubling down after being unable to produce a scintilla of evidence to back up her claims to a piece of the racial-preference racket.

Evidence? She don’t need no stinkin’ evidence. She’s got her family “lore.” She’s “proud” to be an Indian. It’s the kind of fact-free, how-dare-you defense only a Beautiful Person could get away with.

Remember those two Boston firefighters who bought an ancient sepia-tinted photograph of an old Indian woman at a yard sale or somewhere and claimed it was their grandmother?

Those jakes weren’t seeking any special treatment — they just wanted the same deal as Barack Obama and Deval Patrick. The city came down on them, but then, they were just Irish street guys. They acted stupidly. More importantly, they didn’t have the Harvard shield, not to mention the breathtaking sanctimony of Pocahontas Warren.

Her campaign is still looking for “evidence.” In the meantime they’ll be praying the story goes to the Happy Hunting Ground, just like her demands to a New York reporter that her $1.7 million teepee in Cambridge be considered “off the record.”

The fact is, you can’t get much lower than being accused of being a fake Indian. It puts you in the same category as that pony-tailed fraud from the University of Colorado, Ward Churchill. You remember, the fake Indian who said all the people murdered in the World Trade Center on 9/11 were “little Eichmanns.”

Now she claims she doesn’t “recall” if she played the race card when she applied for her big-wampum $350,000-a-year job at Harvard Law. You see, it was so many moons — I mean years, ago. Sounds like a lot of bull — Sitting Bull.

She even said she knew nothing about Harvard Law bragging about her alleged Indian heritage until she read about it in the Herald. More Sitting Bull from the Veritas crowd.

Granny knows how this plays out from here. A group of Indians — real Indians — will demand that she release her employment application to Harvard Law, so we can see what box she really checked off under race, as if we don’t already have a pretty good idea.

Poor Granny. When she got into this fight, she thought it was going to be a coronation. Instead, it’s turning into the Battle of the Little Bighorn. And so far anyway, she’s Gen. George Armstrong Custer.

Elizabeth Warren Herself Claimed “Minority” Status

- snip -

Warren says that she could not “recall” ever listing her Native American background when applying for college or a job.

The old AALS Directory of Faculty guides are online (through academic libraries) at Hein Online. The directories starting listing minority faculty in an appendix in 1986. There’s Elizabeth Warren, listed as a professor at Texas. I spot-checked three additional directories from when she was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, including 1995-96, the year Harvard offered her a position. Elizabeth Warren, Elizabeth Warren, Elizabeth Warren.

So, we know one thing with almost 100% certainty: Elizabeth Warren identified herself as a minority law professor. We know something else with 90%+ certainty: (at least some) folks at Harvard were almost certainly aware that she identified as a minority law professor, though they may not have known which ethnic group she claimed to be belong to, and it may not have played any role in her hiring.

But it gets even more interesting: once Warren joined the Harvard faculty, she dropped off the list of minority law faculty. Now that’s passing strange. When the AALS directory form came around before Warren arrived at Harvard, she was proud enough of her Native American ancestry to ask that she be listed among the minority law professors. (Or, in the unlikely even that she just allowed law school administrators to fill out the forms for her without reviewing them, they were aware that she claimed such ancestry, and she didn’t object when she was listed.) Once she arrived at Harvard, however, she no longer chose to be listed as a minority law professor.

- snip -

What a phony.

Judging by the comments on the Boston Herald page, Granny Warren is indeed going down.

Maybe she considered herself a minority because she’s a woman...

I myself am a member of a minority group:

A conservative in Massachusetts.

I remember when Clinton told a group of Cherokees he was one-sixteenth Cherokee. The tribal genealogist, inquired, “which great-great-grandparent?” [My section chief in the Army was 100% Cherokee, about 6’ tall and 130 pounds. He could effortlessly pick up a GP medium (tent) over his head and place it in an overhead storage bin.] The Cherokee have tribal income which is split proportionally among people with Cherokee heritage, a half Cherokee gets half a share, a quarter, a quarter share, etc. It should be relatively easy to verify Cherokee ancestory.

Of course, if she is descended from Cherokee, she is almost certianly descended from people who fought to preserve slavery.

I'd be more impressed with Granny if she would have mentioned that her Indian "ancestor" had attended Harvard's Indian College back in the day.

Ever since Bill Clinton, Dems have no shame about their lies.

Speaking of Pocohantas Warren , today’s Howie column

White and wrong: On the reservation with Elizabeth Warren
By Howie Carr | Wednesday, May 2, 2012 | | Columnists

We all know about “undocumented workers.” Now we have Elizabeth Warren, the undocumented Indian.

Funny thing, I think Ted Williams was one-fourth Mexican. He was white. Johnny Bench is one-eighth Indian. I always think of him as white. And then there’s Pochantas Warren, the blue-eyed, one-32nd Cherokee (or so we’re told) who went from the Southwest Conference to the Ivy League over the course of a decade in which she was claiming to be a “minority professor.”

But once she’d parlayed the racial-spoils racket all the way to a tenured position at Harvard Law, she decided to ... pass, as they used to say in the old South. Once she’d reached the pinnacle of her trade, she ditched the fake-Indian routine. Maybe White Eyes Warren saw the smoke signals and figured out that someone was going to call her out on her ancestry. She was right.

Still, all’s well that ends well. She has her $1.7 million wigwam in Cambridge. Greedy Wall Street lawyers slurp top-shelf firewater at her $1,000-a-head Manhattan fundraisers. Maybe someday she’ll even smokum peace pipe with Tim Geithner.

But the greatest thing about this latest outbreak of Politically Correct hypocrisy is it shows just how morally and intellectually bankrupt “affirmative action” is.

The race card — like so many others, Barack Obama never leaves home without it. And a couple of weeks ago, he was reading off the Teleprompter that he (unlike, presumably, Mitt Romney) wasn’t “born with a silver spoon in his mouth.”

Excuse me? What would you call a free pass to Columbia and then Harvard Law? For a guy who thinks there are 57 states and that they speak “Austrian” in Austria? Who pronounces corpsman “corpseman”? Who became editor of the Harvard Law Review without ever having written a single article for the publication?

Who can forget Elizabeth Warren’s “rise from poverty.” That hasn’t been mentioned much since we found out that by 1965, her family had three cars, one of which was Granny’s white MG, a car that was, the Globe sadly informed us, “beat up.”

And you say Pocahontas Warren hasn’t got a right to sing the blues?

Then there was Granny’s $168,000 gig working for Travelers Insurance when they were trying to fend off lawsuits from victims of asbestos poisoning. Kind of like Deval Patrick being on the board of subprime monster Ameriquest, or Barack’s dealings with convicted racketeer Tony Rezko.

All of them, they’re better than you, because you’re an oppressor. They’re the oppressed — they went to Harvard Law.

Therese Murray taking us all for an EBT cab ride
By Howie Carr | Friday, May 4, 2012 |
So we’re not going to have a real crackdown on EBT card fraud after all. We can’t, because it would just be too darned cruel. Some layabout might even, gulp, die.

It was clear that last week’s 122-33 House vote to tighten the EBT rules was just a charade — to give taxpayers the illusion of doing something while the Democrats continued coddling their constituents in the non-working classes.

And then last weekend on NECN, Senate President Therese Murray gave us what appears to be the welfare-industrial complex’s official new rationale why the welfare crowd must continue to be allowed to use their EBT cards for free cash:

“We know that people do need cash for emergencies. If you have to get to the hospital and you don’t have a car, you need transportation, (you) need to pay for transportation, so there’s gotta be some balance.”

In other words, they won’t use that free cash for drugs and booze and bail money. It’s to pay for ambulances, or maybe cabs.

Maybe Therese Murray is dumb enough to believe it, but probably not. More likely, she thinks the taxpayers are so dog-tired from working two and three jobs to support the welfare classes that we’ll buy these ridiculous lies.

Does anyone seriously think your average welfare leech is going to pay his own money for a cab — even five bucks — when he can get a free ride if he calls 911 and then produces a MassHealth card?

How can you tell when you’re watching an old movie on TV? A taxi pulls up at an emergency room. It hasn’t happened in, what, 20 years? Maybe 30?

Even Murray, a caricature of the welfare-industrial complex, concedes the endemic corruption in the leisure classes. In her cable-TV appearance, she brought up “the fellow selling heroin with an EBT card and MassHealth and is an illegal alien.”

Just another anecdote, right Gov. Patrick?

In a semi-related development, the cops in Lawrence went into the Italian-American Social Club the other night with a warrant and discovered that the club was simulcasting satellite-TV cockfights from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

With all due respect to the embattled Senate president, I’d bet her that more EBT cash is being spent betting on satellite Dominican cockfights than on cab rides to the hospital.

Another tidbit from the Lawrence story: One of the New Americans found in the club was wanted on an Immigration & Customs Enforcement detainer. Madame President, you wanna go double or nothing that this illegal had (at least) one of your beloved EBT cards on his person?

Another day, another anecdote.

Oh, how the Mihos has fallen
By Howie Carr | Saturday, May 5, 2012 | | Columnists

If this isn’t the bottom for Christy Mihos, he can at least see it from here.

How bad is it? It’s so bad that even Fat Matt Amorello has to be feeling sorry for his former arch-nemesis, the bust-out convenience-store heir now down to his last $7,000.

That was the number Christy’s own lawyer came up with in probate court Thursday. Usually what follows a statement like that is a letter to the judge withdrawing from the case, because the client can no longer pay his bills. God knows, the sometime Republican has been accused of stiffing everybody else of late — the state, charities, former staffers — everyone in fact but the “prostitutes, strippers and porn stars” he allegedly threw away his fortune on.

Twenty-five million bucks.

That’s how much dough Christy has squandered since 2009, according to the lawyer for his long-suffering wife Andrea, who is seeking a divorce, and who can blame her? Andrea’s lawyer said the $25 million includes Christy’s two idiotic races for governor. But those kamikaze runs combined couldn’t have wasted more than $7 million.

Is it possible that Mihos could have really spent $18 million on common nightwalkers in 28 months?

Andrea’s lawyer, David Lee, certainly thinks so. There he was in court Thursday telling the judge about “huge amounts of wasteful spending by Mr. Mihos, some of which was spent with respect to women who charge for time spent together, some spent flying across the country and flying to different places to be with these women.”

No fool like an old fool.

Christy is apparently holed up in the family’s Florida mansion, on Sail Fish Point Boulevard, which sounds almost as posh as their West Yarmouth address — “Great Island.”

“Mr. Mihos,” said his lawyer, “is living a very, very, very simple life compared to when the Mihos’ were together, almost monastic ...”

Wrong word, counselor. Which he quickly realized.

“ ... in the financial manner. He has no money.”

Yesterday, the Herald offered Christy a chance to write a first-person account of his own woes, and how this disaster befell him. We never heard back from Christy.

When the squalid story first broke, Christy issued a statement saying he hasn’t been the same since his cancer and a subsequent fall outside his office in Hyannis. On Thursday, Andrea said she paid $50,000 for his treatment at McLean Hospital in Belmont.

Christy always was a proud guy, to the point of vanity. He thought it was still something to brag about, being elected president of the Brockton High Class of ’67 or whatever. He always reminded people how he paid for the 2002 poll that drove Jane Swift out of the governor’s fight and put Mitt Romney on the road to ... who knows?

Do you think Mitt would invite Christy to his inauguration? I think there’s a better chance Christy will show up at his next high-school reunion, which is to say, no chance at all.
