Police Chief Ken Hahn should be fired. Any police chief that reacts to a citizen exercising his constitutional rights by proposing legislation to prevent that exercise, is not serious about his oath of office.

There is no need for anyone other than a law enforcement officer, or the military, to openly carry a firearm in the city.

This newspaper should be fired.

An attitude like that pretty much MAKES the argument that open carry right of citizens shouldn't be infringed.

“...the right of the people to keep *and bear* arms shall not be INFRINGED.” The fools infringe as much as they can, and we have to kick ‘em every once in a while like the stupid, aggressive dogs they are.

Chief Hahn said he is being proactive and the issue is one of safety.

"Proactive" means there has been no trouble but it just makes the liberals nervous. The "issue" of safety has not been an "issue" so lets put a stop to it! Typical!

I went from zero to furious in 10 seconds on this one.

I NEED to carry openly just to scare traitors and domestic enemies like this guy, and his jackbooted thugs called the police.

I think it's just about time for people like this to be consequenced when they say blatantly unconstitutional stuff like this under the color of authority. People like this will be protected by the system, which itself despises armed citizenry.

When I was working as a consultant for small manufacturing companies, I developed a preference for hanging my jacket in the back of my vehicle and driving to my appointments in my shirt sleeves.

I carry concealed for tactical and social reasons -- but I don't like feeling that I'm breaking the law when I step from the back door to the driver's seat.

We are well on the path to fix that (with full open carry legislation) in the next Texas legislative session.
