This happened last month, but I just learned of the case because the trial court decision was just posted on Westlaw; Cline is appealing the removal. The decision is here; a newspaper article on the subject is here; the statute authorizing the removal, N.C. Gen. Stats. § 7A-66(6), provides that a D.A. may be removed by a court for [c]onduct prejudicial to the administration of justice which brings the office into disrepute.
partly because it comes on the heels of the ouster of D.A. Nifong Cline was the first D.A. elected following Nifongs ouster, and had worked for Nifong and partly because its pretty unusual for elected officials to be removed from office by judges for criticism of other judges. Id love to hear from people who know more about this case.

Elected Durham County D.A. Tracey Cline Former Mike Nifong Deputy Removed from Office for Accusations Against Judge
Superior Court Judge Robert Hobgood ruled March 2 that some of the things that Tracey Cline wrote in long motions filled with accusations against Superior Court Judge Hudson were prejudicial to the administration of justice and brought the office of the district attorney into disrepute.
Hobgood removed her from office and terminated her pay.
Cline ousted as DA:
well if Obama had a son...he’d probably look like Ms. Cline
It’s Durham County. I’m sure the next idiot they elect will need to be removed, too. Morons elect liberal sleaze, rinse, repeat.
DURHAM - The long, critical and harsh motions, filled with words like malicious misconduct, corruption, moral turpitude, dishonesty, and contempt that Tracey Cline wrote in her attempt to remove Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson from hearing cases has cost Cline her job.
On Friday morning in the Durham County Justice Building, Superior Court Judge Robert Hobgood ordered Cline removed permanently without salary from the office of the district attorney of Durham County.
Hudson, who watched the hearing on television, had little comment about the Hobgoods decision. The only comment Ill make is Judge Hobgood said all that I could say, Hudson said.
For the past nine months, Cline has argued and filed motions saying that Hudson, who she once considered a friend and a mentor, has not treated her fairly in his rulings and that he conspired against her with a newspaper reporter and defense attorneys to discredit her.
