GREENVILLE, SC ---
Just a week before graduation, 23 year old Chris Peterman should be preparing his cap and gown. Instead, the Bob Jones University student says he's fighting for the degree he believes he's earned, and he believes the popular television show "Glee" may be partly to blame.

I find the title odd. I can see demanding education from a school - that's what you are paying for. To demand that a school recognized for its conservative politics change its essential nature strikes me as disgustingly arrogant. While I would never have chosen BJU and would discourage my own children from attending that school, I generally side with the school on this. I expect the little loser to get his diploma eventually, but I also expect his public tantrum to make him unemployable at any productive company or organization. I would never hire him - nor am I stupid enough to tell him it's because he's a troublemaker.
PFL
As many BJU students have posted on the original story, he knew the rules, he broke the rules, he suffered the consequences.
Whenever someone “demands” non-education education, I always assume it is political in nature. He wants indoctrination, not education.
“Sexual abuse education” sounds like it really means something else.
“He also says he understood the school’s strict set of standards, rules known for banning everything from sex and smoking, to watching television on campus. “I did agree to that,” he says. “For 3 years, I lived under it, and I was fine.”
He agreed to the rules and when he broke them he cries foul?
Too bad for him..

A lot more to the story not mentioned. Apparently the original purpose of the group was to demand the resignation of a board member. For some unnamed reason. Well, that board member did eventually resign, though this likely had little to do with this group.
Then, the group changed its purpose to not just “sexual abuse awareness”, but according to one of the faculty, “opposition to ‘Christian sexual inhibitions’”. And while it was not said by what was meant with that, I have a pretty good idea.
Play with fire —> get burned
Are you sure you meant to post this on Free Republic and not the Daily Kos? Your buddy knew the rules and decided to break them. And we’re all supposed to rally to his effete cause.
As to sexual abuse awareness, I think most Americans are entirely aware of it. If it ever was a true cause, it has degenerated into a major scam whereby talentless vixens can destroy males, protect their unmerited status, and make a bundle of money all in one fell swoop.
You came back to post this?
Agreed. Bob Jones University is free to manage their business as they see fit.
Where’s the problem here?
Must be troll awareness week.
you don’t even want to know what fox business did today to officially jump their morning show shark. (for those in rio linda, they had a homosexual author of a book about his “two mothers” advocating that it was normal behavior. Fox Business is a joke.)
Anyone who willingly watches “Glee” should be expelled from the galaxy.

The smells of ozone and scorched poofter in the morning are invigorating...
Years ago, my brother got kicked out of Bob Jones Academy for running a gambling casino in his dorm room. Didn’t whine. Didn’t declare that he was “stalked and harassed.” Didn’t claim sexual abuse.
He just moved on to Eastern Mennonite Academy — where he was promptly kicked out for running a gambling casino in his dorm room and requesting that the daily chapel open its service with his favorite soon: “Lucky Devil.”
Again, he didn’t throw a hissy fit. Just left the school and went on to become a very successful TV and film producer.
Maybe the sensitive little sweetheart at BJU should follow suit.
Why didn’t he go to schools that would have appreciated his “skill set”?
Bet you didn’t expect these replies, now did you?
Did you expect to find sympathy at FR for you, your friend, or your friend's situation? Good luck with that.
When I have time later I'll try and post other links covering the story.
Don't bother...
Did he consider going to UNLV? If it is like everywhere else in Las Vegas I would suspect they have slot machines in the dorm rooms.
One reason why college is so expensive is that we expect they provide everything from an education to a social life to surrogate parenting for the students. Just teach the classes and treat the students like adult customers instead of children needing to be molded. I would bristle at a place like Bob Jones, not because they are so much against what I believe but rather I would hate their presumption that they should have the power to tell me how to live just because I am paying them to take some classes there.
Do you watch “Glee”?
Do you like gladiator movies?
Do you ever hang around in gymnasiums?
Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

LOL. Actually, he chose instead to reorient his skill set and choose a career path more in keeping with our minister father’s teachings.
1983 Grad here
He knew the rules
He broke the rules
He broke more rules
He is now suffering the consequences.
Life sucks sometimes.
What do you think about this story?
If he doesn't have the intelligence to know when he is being sexually abused,he doesn't have the intelligence to be able to understand when someone explains it to him.
First of all since you went to this university I want to ask “how bad is sexual abuse on that campus”? Makes me wonder how bad it actually is and how much BJU wants to cover it up.
Second the rules stated “could not watch on campus” and he watched it off campus. I’d get a lawyer if I was him.

You wanna know what I think about it?
There are what, at least 2000+ universities in this country, and the vast majority of them are willing to cater to this guys’ every sexual whim....so why did he have to go to the ONE university that actually dared to have some standards?
Wait a minute!
The rules said “On campus” and he watched it off campus!!
He needs a lawyer. I’d sue not only the university but the student who acted as Gestapo!
With a little digging, I found that the board member in question had been allowing a sexual predator to remain on staff (Shades of the crisis in the Catholic hierarchy) and that this Chris guy did in fact reveal that he was taping the trustees in a showdown with them...so yes, he did force the change.
That said, you do still have to shave and show up in class on time and in washed non stinky clothes.
Also, Glee is nasty, even if you are at Starbucks.
The guy couldn’t keep his act together for one more year?
The actual demerit offences are things any student would have recieved the same demerits for.
Taking a stand on something important does not exempt you from following the rules.
I smell ozone.

Why are you defending this guy? He’s a clown with an agenda, and you have too much time on your hands. What was you old screen name, ash? murrymom?
Wow, I’m pretty surprised by all the trolling. Did anyone actually read the article? Chris wasn’t demanding free condoms and abortions or anything remotely like that. He was protesting a pastor and board member of thethe school who had covered up a rape in his church. If you just Google “Chuck Phelps” (the pastor in question) or “Tina Anderson” (the victim in question) you can learn more about the story. I’m on my Droid now and it’s hell trying to cut and paste direct links, otherwise I’d do so right now.
I’m no liberal troll, believe it or not. I’m a devout Christian, conservative and libertarian in my politics, and a proud American soldier who takes his oath to defend the Constitution very seriously.
I went to BJU off and on from 2003-2008 so I know all about their Pharisaical rules and mentality that thea accused is guilty until proven innocent. The thing is, after Chris staged his protest, he was stalked and tattled on repeatedly because they were desperate to get him in trouble. This was unfair and inexcusable.
Agreed. Why does an 18yo, old enough to go to war, need supervision in how they run their lives? This isn’t high school.
How’s you boss, Cass Sunstein, doing? Don’t worry, I won’t tell him about the clumsy introduction you gave yourself.
Oh, and by the way, please let him know that one of his HLS classmates will pimp-slap him from D.C. to SF next time we get together. Thanks!
He’s a troll. How did anyone miss it?
Now wait a minute. My momma always told me that if I played with fire, I’d wet the bed. This is rockin my world here.
If those facts were important to the story they would have been included in the lead-in.
They weren’t, and now they suddenly appear? That fact alone raises questions.
Anyway, I have a life, so I won’t be reading about this anymore.
Another day, another world-view shattered.
Totally LOL. Expelled for running a casino! LOL
Something tells me that Airborne had jotting problems the last time he was a regular here. And something tells me that nothing has changed.
Contempt for Bob Jones U., whether you agree with them or not, it a sure sign of terminal leftism.
With all due respect.
I went to BJU for four years and hold a degree from there. I know the rules very, very well.
When I was there, the president’s son, Bob Jones IV was caught doing something similar to this and was expelled from the university for one year. Meaning, he was unable to step onto the campus at all. How unfortunate for him that the campus was also where his family lived. He had to leave for one full 365 day period.
This young man knew the rules; he broke the rules; consequences are harsh sometimes.
How bad is sexual harrassment on campus? I never witnessed any. Zero, zilch, none.
That was in the early 80’s. I doubt things have changed that much.
Once again..the rules (as posted in this article) said “on campus” and he did this off campus. So how is this breaking a rule?
As for sexual harassment, okay you did not see it but how many other women can come forward and say the same? It does happen in Christian Institutions. Look at how many preachers “fall from grace” for having cheating on their wives. Jim Bakker comes to mind, but there are others in and out of the spotlight.
The rules posted in the article do not match the rules of BJU. They can be found at www.bju.edu. You are free to look them up and correct me if I am wrong.
I did not see it or experience it. That doesn’t mean it didn’t or does not exist. However, in this case if you read the story of Chuck Phelps and Tina Anderson you can learn what really happened.
It is my opinion, this young man was out of line.
Your mileage may vary.
