A new report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) shows that more than more than 68,000or 68 percentof the 99,691 guns recovered in Mexico between 2007 and 2011 were either made in the U.S. or legally brought into the U.S. at some point.
As you might expect, gun-rights advocates and gun-control advocates view the data quite differently, The Hill reports.
Gun-rights advocates say the 68 percent number is overstated because the sample pool only reflects guns submitted to the ATF for traces. There are many other guns in Mexico, and many dont have a U.S. connection, they say. Guns-rights supporters say Democrats try to use the inflated percentages to promote gun control.

Are you proposing we give them the people back in exchange for our guns?

Almost 70% of the illegal drugs found in the U.S. came from Mexico. So what’s the ATF’s point?

Any company in mexico make guns? Then I guess they would have to be imported. Need to call Holder and ask for an inventory of what he sent down.

How many of the American made guns came from the Mexican army? The cartels have recruiting signs hanging from highway overpasses aimed at Mexican soldiers. The soldiers desert and take arms and equipment with them. That is how the Zetas started.

Absolute lie.
About 70% of the guns CHECKED with the ATF come from the US.
They only check them if they suspect they came from the US.
The vast majority are not checked with the ATF because there is no reason to believe those guns came from the US.
Guns are much cheaper to get from other countries than from the US.

What they are forgetting to mention is that most (AR15 derivatives like the M-16) of them were legally tranferred to the various militaries of South and Central America by the US Goevernment.
In other words, the corrupt and incompetent governments of Central and South America armed the drug cartels out of their own armories.

Well when you have no domestic manufacturing capability it kind of makes sense that most would be from the nearest location that does. That is just common sense. If the majority were from China, that would be something unexpected.

IIRC, you are limited to certain calibers in Mexico, and they cannot be common military calibers like the 9mm or 45acp.
The 38 Super is legal.
Thus the popularity of the 38 super pistol in Mexico, which is more powerful than a 9mm.
Too bad the 38 Super gets little love here. It’s a great round.

“Made in the US”. That’s the trick right there. Ever seen pictures of mexican soldiers or cops? They ain’t carrying Japanese guns.
To: Vigilanteman
Sounds like a fair trade to me. Besides. If things here keep going like they’re going, Americans are going to need all the guns we can get.

Anyone who refuses to recognize selection bias must think a lot of strange things.
I mean 30% of all children are unrelated to the person their mother says is the father - if you go by the reports of the labs who determine such things. (most people don’t check - those that do usually had suspicions.)
Someone in the industrialized world is three times more likely to get cancer! (many cancer deaths in the third world are never diagnosed as cancer.)
Etc, etc, etc.
Are people really this stupid? Or just a significant percentage? Is there a selection bias towards idiots with no understanding of math going into journalism?

Almost 70% of Guns Found in Mexico Came From US Yeah, and almost 70% of that report is bullsh!t.
70% of guns TRACED (had an S/N in somebody's database) came from the US.
Doesn't mean my 2nd Amendment rights should be infringed.
We don't have comprehensive registration (my God I hope we never do) so there is NO WAY this number means anything.

I call BS on the article, we know from past history that we’re only talking about “traceable guns” not recovered weapons. Odds are that us mfg guns are at most 20% including the military stolen guns.
