The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.
Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)."
"The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains.
The slogan "Forward!" reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.
The Obama campaign released its new campaign slogan Monday in a 7-minute video. The title card has simply the word "Forward" with the "O" having the familiar Obama logo from 2008. It will be played at rallies this weekend that mark the Obama re-election campaign's official beginning.
There have been at least two radical-left publications named "Vorwaerts" (the German word for "Forward"). One was the daily newspaper of the Social Democratic Party of Germany whose writers included Friedrich Engels and Leon Trotsky. It still publishes as the organ of Germany's SDP, though that party has changed considerably since World War II. Another was the 1844 biweekly reader of the Communist League. Karl Marx, Engels and Mikhail Bakunin are among the names associated with that publication.
East Germany named its Army soccer club ASK Vorwaerts Berlin (later FC Vorwaerts Frankfort).
Vladimir Lenin founded the publication "Vpered" (the Russian word for "forward") in 1905. Soviet propaganda film-maker Dziga Vertov made a documentary whose title is sometimes translated as "Forward, Soviet" (though also and more literally as "Stride, Soviet").

The Communists in China and a massive chunk of Europe won WWII, thanks to FDR, and they must be thrilled now — it’s their hay day in America now. No one is going to stop them, and there are too many idiot sheeple repeating the mantra about “taking from the rich.”
The same sheeple will drink this up, just like they did all of Barry’s other Communist slogans. Too much of his administration even looks like reincarnated Bolsheviks/Mensheviks (or Nazis) — with their little frame-less glasses and soul-less eyes.
Maybe they do know about it’s long ties to Marxism and that is exactly why they are using it.
Forward is the motto. Yes, being from WI, I know. WI s also the birthplace, unfortunately, of the progressive movement. We also had the longest serving socialist mayor in Milwaukee in the early 20 th century.
I don’t know who actually came up with our motto, but with the heavy influx of German immigrants in the late 19th century, I’ll bet there were more than a few copies of the Manifesto in WI around that time.
I just took a look at the campaign video, the beginning at least (I can’t stomach watching all of anything the Machine emits). The basic message: “It’s All Bush’s Fault.”
Change forward to forewarned. He kinda looks like Malcom X w/o the glasses.
His true political alliegance is showing and the sheeple will not notice.
Commie bump!
It worked on the fools elsewhere, it’ll work on the fools here.
Good definition of FORWARD
10. forward
radical or extreme.
“Maybe THAT’S why he picked it.”
Maybe? MAYBE?
We need a good cartoonist to show a crowd of people looking over the edge of a cliff, with Obama behind them in a Commie military uniform, holding an AK-47 and shouting, “FORWARD!”.
Could be done in the sickening Communist style of the last campaign’s “Hope/Change” poster.
And plaster it EVERYWHERE.
Mao had “The Great Leap Forward” which not only was a complete failure, but also resulted in tens of millions of deaths.
“Mao had The Great Leap Forward which not only was a complete failure, but also resulted in tens of millions of deaths.
Ah, but was it a failure in Mao’s mind? That is truly the difference between the conservative God-fearing mind and the leftist God-does-not-exist/I-am-God mind. The former looks in horror at millions of deaths in service to a bankrupt philosophy, the latter shrugs and moves “forward,” unconcerned and untouched by such trivialities as pangs of conscience, which of course are only reactionary vestiges of primitive “religious” misconceptions.
