ROME - Governments are failing to fund projects to improve access to toilets and other sanitation services in poor countries because the subject remains "taboo", a director at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said on Monday.

Toilets are taboo,, THAT, just about says it all.
The word “taboo” is RACIST.
Hey hey hey!!! Watch that nasty language. I have a picture of my kids that can see this.
Well, Bill & Melida, how ‘bout you take a spare billion and buy some toilets. I figure with a quantity discount you could probably get 7-8 million toilets. Distributing those would then keep you busy enough so you wouldn’t have time to be hectoring the rest of us.
Cue the OWS toilet run on the sidewalk video, to show how it’s not taboo here, AND that the White Hut approves.
This country was built using outhouses.
Why can’t they make outhouses anymore?............
"Let's be more specific. Are we talking about...number one or cocky-doody?"
Built like a brick s**thouse....
Outside lock on the outhouse — guess it’s to keep the wind from blowing the door open, but children would have fun with that one.
“Johnny on the Spot.”
hehehe.....that slipped by me the first time i looked at it. X)
Really? You want to make sanitation an aspirational product like the cellphone? Just have the UN mandate that poor people crap platinum bricks. You can call it the Antoinette Initiative. On the other hand, I would think the prospect of not being dead is plenty aspirational.
And grown children... I can name a few.
so how is this our problem? and why do i get the nagging suspicion tht the end result would be a large transfer of funds from the american taxpayer, to the despots in the affected countries?
awww c’mon. when has that ever happened? /sarc
Before the China PROlympics, we were shown all about their poor sanitation, etc. which ALL GOT BETTER in time for the PROlympics.
Just schedule the PROlympics in these O-hole third world countries, and problem solved!
......oh, and it’s SOLAR POWERED, too!............
Just call them “government relief centers” and problem solved.
What strikes me about the Gates Foundation is that for a guy who made his fortune selling software into the free market, all the programs I hear about are hardware related (toilets, polio shots, birth control devices) rather than software related (free capital markets, private property ownership, clear title registration and enforcement, adjudication systems , non-corrupt political systems, good government programs, western based religious institutions, etc). Eradication of poverty is built on social software, not hardware.
Wow, a brick sh!thouse. I have seen one of those since I was a kid in rural Virginia.
The reason most municipalities are uninterested in creating public toilets is that they generally become havens for the homeless, homosexuality, prostitution and intravenous drug use.
It used to be “shoot, shovel, and shut up.”
