Occupy's May Day protests off to slow, soggy start in NYC

(Reuters) - Occupy Wall Street's call for a general strike to mark International Workers Day got off to a slow start on Tuesday, with sparse gatherings at a handful of spots around a rainy New York City.

At Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, about 100 activists gathered where the group had promised a "pop-up encampment" emblematic of the movement's early days in lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park near the Wall Street financial district.

Where do you get that information?

From the very first occupy protest. They were complaining they couldn't get good paying jobs, because they were swamped with student loans. They believed it was "unfair" the rich bankers got bailed out and they didn't.
The unions and Oboma reelection teams showed up within days and took over their movement. I believe it was to silence the original complaint, because the original complaint made Oboma look pretty bad. He wants - needs - those college student votes. Complaining about a lack of good paying jobs would have been a problem for Oboma.

Community Board Asks "Occupy Wall Street" Protesters To Clean Up, Quiet Down

“This has been a nightmare,” said Brian Summers, who lives near Zuccotti Park.

Summers said those trying to force corporations to become better corporate citizens should learn to be better citizens themselves.

“It makes us feel horrible. We work down here, we live down here,” said Summers.

Drums are played each and every day. The noise registers as 117 on a decibel meter.

According to the federal government, regular exposure to 110 decibels can lead to permanent hearing loss.

From blocks away, it might not be physically harmful, but neighbors say it's damaging lives.

“We support the message, and a lot of residents do, but they also want to have a good night sleep,” said Manhattan City Councilmember Margaret Chin.

Local officials have been swamped with neighborhood complaints.

That's why they invited protesters to hear them firsthand at a Community Board 1 meeting Thursday.

Besides the noise problem, residents say protesters are pouring urine in the streets.

“Our neighbors do not urinate and defecate in the street. These occupiers need to vacate our neighborhood,” said one resident.

PS...think back. When the occupiers first arrived, a lot of people agreed with them. The banks should not have been bailed out simply because they were in cahoots with the government. Remember? The subject was about good paying jobs not being available for average citizens to pay their own bills, yet the banks got a bail out at the tax payers expense. That was the reason for the FIRST protest. After that, the radical left took over the movement, and now it's just a communist vs. Capitalist thing. It has nothing to do with, nor is it anything like, the original reason for the protest.
I'm sure the original protesters want nothing to do with this bunch that's protesting today. They have nothing in common.

You have a good memory. Posts # 22 and # 25 are correct. The very original protesters were against bailouts for TBTF. They couldn’t understand why they had done what was asked of them, were deep in debt, and there were no jobs to be had while TBTF financiers were given billions.

Their complaints made marxist/crony capitalist Zero look bad indeed.

Magically and very rapidly marxists, communists, anarchists, union Obama supporters, Soros sponsored groups appeared and took over the movement and changed its whole character.

I see this as analogous to the environmental movement which started with citizens against corporations passing on part of the cost of production to the public at large in the form of gross air and water pollution. Early on the communists and globalists infiltrated the environment movement and changed it to world wide ‘green’ nanny state control to save ‘Gaia’ and the polar bears.
