President Barack Obama made a previously unannounced visit to Afghanistan on Tuesday, the first anniversary of the U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden in neighboring Pakistan.
The president will make a televised address from Afghanistan at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The trip was Obama's third to Afghanistan since taking office. He visited in March 2010 and returned in December of the same year. He also visited Afghanistan in 2008 as a presidential candidate.
Tuesday's visit came at a particularly delicate time in relations between the United States and Afghanistan. The countries have been negotiating a strategic agreement that would outline the basis for U.S.-Afghan cooperation after most U.S. and allied troops withdraw in 2014.

Ironically, it has taken the entirety of my lifetime (roughly, from 1950 to now) for the evil in this world to work their slow, steady debasement and overthrow of this country.
It gave us strong leaders in the beginning like Truman and Ike, and then moved on to the Kennedy’s (a horrible bunch) and then to LBJ, the perfect polititican...then Nixon, then Ford. Then Carter and miraculously - Reagan who will never be matched again. Two Bushs and a Clinton later, we are faced with this country’s downfall under the treachery of Obama.
This man is now in the country where our soldiers have to guard their lives constantly. And now they have to be even more vigilent to protect his sorry ass. It is a damned shame.

Received phone call from Tom Donilon who stated that the President made a decision with regard to AC1 [Abbottabad Compound 1]. The decision is to proceed with the assault. The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven’s hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out. Those instructions were conveyed to Admiral McRaven at approximately 10:45 am.
Now compare President Obama’s handling of this moment in US History to that of then General Eisenhower on the day before D-Day (in case of failure). General Eisenhower had the guts to meet up with the 101st Airborne thinking that 80% of these men would be dead within the next 48 hours. Yet he spent time with them despite his breaking heart. Then on his drive back he penned a note that said the following: A digital copy of the message is below.

Here is what the message said if you cannot read President Eisenhower's writing.
“Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that Bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.”
