BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Birmingham police say a 13-year-old robbery suspect was shot and killed by the person he tried to rob in Birmingham Friday night.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirms the teen's identity as Jaqures Cortez Walker of Birmingham. He was a 7th grade student at Martha Gaskin Middle School and the quarterback for the football team, according to a family member.
BPD Sgt. Johnny Williams said the teen suspect approached a couple as they pulled into their home at the gated Skyview Condominiums in the 400 block of Skyview Drive around 11:10pm. Friday, April 27. Skyview Drive is off Robert Jemison Road. The suspect had a T-shirt over his face like a bandana and was holding a cocked and loaded gun, Williams said.
Police say the would-be robber approached the male occupant of the car and told him to "Get out and give it up." The man had his own gun in the car and shot the teenager. The teen ran a few feet, collapsed and died at the scene, Williams said.

Armed, Law Abiding Folks out there, part of defending yourself successfully is planning for the aftermath of the shooting as well as the actual shooting itself. As self defense shootings go up, you are going to experience more and more of what police in the US do everyday.
You may be excoriated in the media by families and self appointed social activists (reverends, pastors, and other “clergy”) who will try the same arguments against you as they do the police.

You didn’t have to shoot to kill, you could have shot in the air, or in his leg.

I guess all you have to do nowadays is mumble-mouth something, throw in a couple "q"s or maybe an accent after the name's first letter and BINGO, you have a stereotyping first name that lasts longer than a tattoo. Just put a Jaqures, or a Makita, or Jamaquita, or Durell, or Jamalita on a resume and see what pile that goes on.
So, instead of being at home (where he belonged) perhaps doing homework, or reading a good book, or learning how to play an instrument, or helping his (more than likely) single mom around the house, this child is now dead.
I hope he wasn't shot by a "white" guy, or the Jackson-Sharpton express will be down there to start trouble and declare a St. Jaqures Day.
One reason is money...this killing saved the justice system a fortune and saved the U.S. taxpayer the roughly $50++ grand a year that his eventual incarceration would have cost.

According to the info in this article the Mom saw him leave in a SUV about 9 pm Friday and it wasn’t until about 3:30 pm Sat that the BPD got in touch with her with the news.
