Someone in the Obama campaign should find a new line of work. They've adopted as a slogan the single word: Forward! You've heard those complaints from conservatives that Obama is a socialist? Well, Forward! is one sure way to validate those concerns. Forward! has been the slogan of Marxists for more than a century. Vorwärts is not a soccer rival to Harry Potter's Hogwarts school, that home of witchcraft and wizardry. Vorwärts was the German language name of the Socialist newspaper for generations of European leftists.
In Russia, Vladimir Lenin's Bolsheviks used the word Vperyod! Now, if you had been accused day in and day out of being a Marxist, would you run for re-election with such a freighted word? It's a comment on American education that a candidate for president can use a Communist word and expect no one will notice or object.
Maybe the Obama team is just taking cues from MSNBC. They try to deny their far-left orientation with the disarming slogan: Lean Forward. Try to imagine that we're on the rim of the Grand Canyon, staring down at the chasm of debt that this administration has dug for. This president has dug a hole of debt in three years deeper than all previous forty-three presidents. And while we're hanging out over that canyon rim, MSNBC tells us to lean forward.
It's surprising that President Obama didn't pick up on the unsavory associations with the word Forward! It's like David Duke not getting the problem with white sheets.
In his book, Radical-in-Chief Stanley Kurtz takes great care to document Mr. Obama's ties to American socialists. Obama admits in his memoir that he attended the Socialist Scholars Conference in New York City in April 1983. The way Obama tells it, going to that conference was part of the delightful intellectual smorgasbord of activity that a Columbia student samples in Manhattan. You know, Lincoln Center, the Bronx Zoo, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Grant's Tomb -- all that cultural stuff in the Big Apple.
The only problem with this scenario is that the agenda of the Socialist Scholars Conference in 1983 was pretty clear: How to bring Socialism to America without importing all that nasty, brutish KGB and GuLAG apparatus from what President Reagan was calling the evil empire.
Those democratic Socialists may well have hit on the formula: work against the family, abolish marriage, crush small businesses, take over big ones. Nationalize student loans and home mortgages, the two biggest items in the American family budget. You don't have to nationalize everything. As former Obama economic adviser Austan Goolsby said, just the "commanding heights" of the economy. Nice Marxian phrase there, Austan.
Stanley Kurtz is quite careful to distinguish President Obama's radicalism from that of the Continental Marxists. Kurtz will not go where the evidence does not lead. He finally concludes that Barack Obama is a Socialist, but he's a Socialist like the left wing of the Swedish Social Democratic Party.
Now, it was hard enough to get Americans to muster on the village green when Paul Revere rode through "every Middlesex village and farm" crying out "The British are coming! The British are coming!" But stand they did and fired the shot heard `round the world.
During the Cold War, Hollywood's Alan Arkin made fun of anti-Communists here with a spoof called "The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming!"
So it's not hard to figure out why Stanley Kurtz's book did not raise greater alarms. How do you get folks stirred up yelling "The Swedes are coming! The Swedes are coming"?
The serious question we need to ask ourselves: Does the Swedish Socialist model work, even for Sweden? Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia will find it increasingly impossible to meet the demands of their social welfare systems with an ever-shrinking native-born population. That's why Sweden has taken to importing folks from the Third World. And that, tragically is why the ancient city of Malmő has become dangerous for Jews. The children and grandchildren of people who fled there with the rise of Hitler are being forced out by the rise of jihadist anti-Semitism.
Anti-Semitism is the inevitable result of the politics of re-distribution. We should not forget that in Germany, it was National Socialism that blamed the Jews as that nation's one percent. Socialism didn't work in the USSR, but anti-Semitism was rife. That's why millions of Soviet Jews fled when they had the chance.
The reason Socialists always proclaim Forward! as their slogan is that they never want you to look at their record. Don't look back at the wreckage of the economy and the dangers to liberty. Just keep marching together, Forward! indeed.
March Bravely Forward Along the Glorious Road of Maos May 7th Directive SOLIDARITY! [In the absence of war, soldiers should learn politics, engage in agriculture, and work in factories; factory workers should, in addition to their main industrial work, learn military affairs, politics, and culture; and communes, in addition to their main agricultural work, should also learn military affairs, politics, and culture.]
A PEOPLES ARMY HAS NO RIVAL
Summer 2011 -- The "liberal superstructure" siege on the Wisconsin state capital: Democrats Unveil the Weapon of the Future This is an extraordinary series of events, of a type that we haven't witnessed before. Even more singular is the legacy media's insistence on covering the story (with the exception of the siege of Madison, which got the standard "unions unbound" treatment) as if it were commonplace to the point of boredom. It is no such thing; it is an ideological campaign of a magnitude and breadth that we have not seen in quite some time, if ever.
What all this amounts to is the baptism of fire of what I have taken to calling the "liberal superstructure." This superstructure is the vast constellation of advocacy groups, think tanks, single-issue outfits, unions, and various other flotsam constructed by the left over the past half-century or so. There are literally thousands of these groups, ranging from the ACLU and the Sierra Club with their hundreds of thousands of members to the local "Friends of the People's Venezuela" outfit which amounts to a retired feminism professor and her six cats. These organizations are ubiquitous, universal, and networked to a fare-thee- well. They are also liberalism's last great hope of controlling politics in the United States.
It's scarcely arguable that, in the political sense, liberalism is on the ropes. Obama spent their last nickel. They have lost the House and will lose the Senate, with little chance of regaining them in the near future. The same is true of the White House once the messiah gets the bum's rush come 2012. Liberalism is on the skids, its programs uniform failures, its ideology barren, its slogans worn out, its long hold on the independents being relentlessly pared down by the Tea Parties.
So what is a political movement to do, particularly one as fanatic and apocalyptic as this one? Well, if you have an alternate system made up of outside organizations not subject to governmental oversight, a system populated with self-selected fanatics and true believers, a system poised and ready to march, you can do what was done in Wisconsin. You can turn the superstructure loose to threaten the public peace, smash things up, abuse the electoral process, create a media spectacle, and pressure the state to do things your way. You can use nonpolitical organizations (in the electoral sense) to get a political result.
All the groups involved in the Wisconsin campaign were superstructure groups. The unions, the very core organizations of the superstructure, without which it's no more than a pack of vegetarians and aging hippies. The media, which serves as its propaganda arm. And the judiciary, which is broadly infiltrated by leftist partisans whose allegiance has been awarded to something other than the law.
But it's when we review the Prosser accusations that the picture attains clarity. According to Byron York, the story (which had been held back for nearly two weeks) was first reported by the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism working with Wisconsin Public Radio. (Two guesses as to which end of the spectrum they lean toward.) The Prosser story was billed as the result of a project funded by the Open Society Institute to enlighten the public about Wisconsin government.
The report was picked up by ThinkProgress, the strike force for the Center for American Progress, which both tweeted and posted the story, as well as calling for Justice Prosser's ouster.
The interesting thing here is that the Open Society and the Center for American Progress are the flagship organizations of the liberal superstructure, the outfits that call the shots, handle the funding, and coordinate efforts. They are also funded by Old Spooky himself, George Soros. The left rolled out their big units for this effort. Why? To wreck the career of a junior state Supreme Court justice? To take control of the Dairy State? Perhaps so, but I believe it was also in hopes of testing out the superstructure as a political delivery system in a relatively closed environment. ..
Wikipedia Deletes President Obamas New Marxist Campaign Slogan Link to Socialists Update: Yesterday I began to write the article below in the early afternoon. The Wikipedia article where I got some of the information included Forward (Obama-Biden Campaign Slogan) and the use of Forward by numerous socialist and communist groups. The reference to generic name of socialist publications has been removed. Now the Wiki article includes this message:
The Forwardism Disease The Obama slogan for 2012 is in and it's "Forward", which is a compact version of that old classic, "Don't change horses in the middle of a stream" that every incumbent is forced to run on sooner or later. Forward implies that there's no alternative but to go backward, which is a place that no right-thinking person wants to go.
The left has always been enamored of "Forwardism" or "Progressivism" which mean much the same thing. Before MSNBC had Lean Forward, Mao had the Great Leap Forward which killed some 40 million people, far more people than MSNBC can ever dream of tuning in to their programs.
When Lenin wanted to launch his own newspaper, he called it, "Vperod" or Forward. The name still lingers on among the left and appears on the mastheads of newspapers across the world. It's Vorwarts in Germany, Voorwarts in the Netherlands and Ila al-Amam in the Arab world. Back in New York it's The Forward, the venerable blotting paper of the Jewish left.
There are any number of left-wing political parties who have already named themselves "Forward", including the Forward Communist Party of India, Kadima, the left-wing opposition party in Israel, and Vperod, a Russian political party that split off from the Socialist Resistance on account of the latter not being radical enough.
Picking "Forward" as his campaign slogan puts Obama in good company with the likes of Lenin and Mao, and it sounds positive until you stop and realize that it's meant more as an order than a suggestion. There's a reason most leftist newspapers with that name add an exclamation mark at the end of it. It's not a proposal, it's a command. Lean forward, march forward, live forward and then die forward. We've burned the bridges, run up the deficit and trashed the economy so there's no going back.
And the official(FR) answer to this is, lets not vote for the Republican nominee. Brilliant.
The Wisconsin state motto is “Forward” since 1851. We were just discussing how much we didn’t like it about 2 weeks ago, not it’s even more annoying.
Forward, forward was the marching song of the Hitler Youth.
Jarret: I am here, my Lord.
Obama: People are reporting that our new Campaign slogan has Marxist and Communist roots. Is there any truth to this?
Jarret: It is true, My Lord. You should be so proud to have thought of it on your own. My idea of “Backward” as a slogan was inappropriate. And I apologize again for being so blind to your cause, My Lord.
Obama: Valerie, we'll need to tell the press that our slogan is to highlight the opposite of what Republicans want to do and in no way is related to our Marxists and communist beliefs.
Jarret: As you wish, My Lord.
a socialist is a socialist is a socialist... romney is a socialist... anyone who supports him supports socialism... the choice is not between republican or democrat, because they are both socialists.
you must make a decision, do you support socialism, or not?
I agree. The key here is not Romney, it’s to get rid of Obama. Not voting for Romney is a vote for Obama. Don’t even take a chance on giving him that edge. We could have found someone better than Romney but the people voted for him and that’s what they want......We can’t put all the blame on the GOP.
As for the use of “Forward”, Obama and his people know exactly what they are doing and what the word means. They just hope the American people are too stupid to figure it out.
True Story - Received a call from a democRAT group identifying themselves as WTF. Hung up on them.
Bain Capital, a hot bed of radical Leftists. I heard Pol Pot got his start in the municipal bond department there.
They cannot change the date of introduction of this slogan... mere hours before MayDay. They were working and focus grouping this slogan probably for months, and the day before MayDay, like the unveiling of a new masterpiece painting, pulled the covers off.
We need a really good parody of the Forward motto tying Obama to international socialism. Something we can put on a bumper sticker that will keep people wondering if it is satire or real.
WTF - Forward
Obama and Hitler?
For the radical profs and the occupy idiot kids, FORWARD!
They’ll understand it, and love it!
For all thinking, informed Americans, it conjures images of Greece and even worse if that’s possible, Spain.
The so called Euro implosion is truthfully the implosion of Socialism.
the Michigan state motto is “Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam, circumspice”, which translates “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you.”
Yeah, I would stick with “Forward” too.
Obama and Chavez 5th Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain - April 17, 2009
I would have bet a month of Sunday dinners that Obama’s 2012 campaign slogan would be “Making Life Fair”.
Win The Future--> Forward
Obama and Hitler Approved
