Owners of small businesses near the center of Tuesday's noontime clash between police and protesters in downtown Oakland said they were shaken and on high alert.
"If things get ugly again, I'll put up plywood," said Jean Assuncao, manager of the Pizza Man on Broadway near 14th Street, as he stood at the restaurant's locked doors to admit customers one at a time minutes after protesters had marched farther down the street and clouds of tear gas had dissipated.
Next door, a man and a woman nailed boards over the front of the Broadway Beauty store. Down the block, employees locked the front doors of the Rite-Aid and closed metal security gates. Several nearby businesses, including Oaklandish, Tully's Coffee and Men's Wearhouse, appeared already closed for the day.

Has anyone heard ANY Republican politician state that folks are on their own because the police will not be allowed to do much about the rioting for reasons of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS.
Has anyone heard any Republican politician state that since Mom & Pop store owners are on their own they may need to think about being able to defend themselves from the aforementioned idiots/anarchists/socialists/communists like the Korean shop owners did during the Rodney King riots .
Because the GOP has a complete lack of spine let alone a fighting spirit you will see a lot of folks tell the GOP to p*ss off this election season.

O’Reily did a pretty good coverage tonight. Even mentioned that May Day was a communist/socialist celebration. Showed clips of Pelosi & a few other miscreants supporting the occupods from the start up.

Occupy is one of several outrages that the GOP is pretending didn’t happen. Like my maiden aunt said, “I’m so mad I could spit.” the country is going to hell in a dozen directions and no public figure is willing to fight. At least call things as you see them. We’ve had occupy May day with several riots and supported by the Democrats, the campaign trip to Kabul to speak in front of an armored truck instead of soldiers and make another meaningless agreement with Karzai and the betrayal of Chen in China. These are three of the biggest outrages of Obama’s presidency and everyone is “playing nice”. I guess if Obamacare didn’t make you blow your top, nothing will. Well, I have lost it.

Funny, the Murky News today said it was all peace and love at the big May Day celebrations throughout the Bay Area with nary of problem anywhere. They did casually mention that a yute in San Fran dropped a brick off the roof of a building narrowly missing cops and protesters, but it was no big deal because nobody got hurt.
So how much tax revenue did the State lose because of the occurats?
I spent 16 years working for Clorox at the corner of !2th and Broadway in Oak town. Protests of all kinds on a regular basis at that corner. i’ve eaten many, many slices of pizza from that shop over the years.
It’s a lost cause, folks. Oakland, nay, California is LOST...folks... gone.
It’s not that regular folks don’t recognize the madness for what it is...They are just cowed. They have leveraged themselves out to the max for a small piece of property and have NO way out. Folks are just hanging on out here.
I work with HIGHLY paid medical professionals now....and they complain that they can’t afford a cup of Starbucks coffee....and i believe them! They are SO leveraged out on their underwater SF Bay area homes that ALL of them are ONE MORE JOLT away from losing it all....sad.

I hit the back button and deleted my long drawn out response to this, so I’ll sum it up. The Black Bloc tactic is a form of expression and a form of dissent with corporate property, they destroy it because they don’t like it and they have every human right too. The Revolutionary Left often uses this tactic because it is, as it says, REVOLUTIONARY. The annoying moderate politics of America do not WORK. I just observed in another thread that we don’t seem to have much problem with this nonsense in CCW, stand your ground states.
I wonder why that is?
Because it leads to contempt of the idea that the rule of law in a civil society . It is an attack of the concept of civilization itself replacing it with savage violence & barbarism . It will lead to not just the liberal enclaves falling into barbarism but everywhere else as well.
