Former D.C. Council member Thomas sentenced to 38 months in prison

Former D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr. was sentenced Thursday to 38 months in prison for stealing more than $350,000 in public funds.

“This is my weakest moment. the lowest moment of my life,” Thomas said, after testimony from his mother and a little league baseball official.

The U.S. attorney for the District said the court should impose 46 months in prison. Thomas directed funds intended for youth sports programs through the Children & Youth Investment Trust Corp. to nonprofits and then skimmed off money for himself to pay for trips and lavish expenses.

U.S. District Court John D. Bates said he thought Thomas was remorseful and he could not and would not “totally ignore your record of community service.” Yet he also struck a firm tone with Thomas about the severity off his crime.

Harry Thomas will likely be reelected when he gets out of prison.

Probably will. DC has a history of electing idiots.
“This is my weakest moment. the lowest moment of my life,” I don’t think he gets it. I would say the lowest moment of his life was when he decided to steal that money, not when he got caught and had to face the music.

Yep, isn't it amazing how these scum become so remorseful after they're nailed.

Thanks for the link. I hope Thies is right about Thomas not having a chance of reelection. He'll only do 85% of the sentence with good behavior but that's 32 months and hopefully voters are starting to wake up.

not bad ... one month for every $9,210.53 you steal from the taxpayers

beats working

you'd get 20 years if you stole just $9,210.00 from a bank

.
