Here is the
Google Street View of the intersection. A
news photo shows the car pulled over in front of that gas station. The POV of the photo is opposite to the Street View, and the scene is readily identifiable.
Gotta wonder how fast he was going.

Prayers for all involved.
Horrible accidents do happen.
I don’t know about NY, but here in Florida, a pedestrian is always supposed to have the “right of way” in a crosswalk, even when they don’t obey the lights.
That gets some of them killed every year, when they cross against the light at busy intersections. My city installed digital countdown signs for pedestrians, yet I still see people just darting out in front of traffic during rush hour.
