STOP PAYING PEOPLE NOT TO WORK.

Baraq is having a fun time rewarding his voters with $1.40 in spending for every $1 in revenue. Like a family riding a wave of fake prosperity living on credit cards and helocs.

And as a direct result of that increase my hours were cut almost in half. It so happens I am one that can live on the current min wage. I have no family to support. It is just me. But I am the exception. The other fact is, not only were my hours cut, but I was already making the current min wage of 7.25/hr. I have not gotten a raise since.

Ping me when they call for maximum wages, except for entertainers, athletes, and college professors.

Raising the minimum wage will increase unemployment as more workers get laid off. Of course, the administration can fake those figures, too. And, it will increase the already-staggering number of people that the administration has put on the dole (in various forms: welfare, foodstamps, mortgage bailouts, and the super-sized hike in the numbers of folks being put on “disability” — those catagories just for starters, there are many more.) Adding millions more people to the throngs being made to depend on the federales for their incomes ... means less economic growth, a weaker nation....but probably more votes on Re-Election Day. Hummm... maybe there is a pattern here...? Like, use (borrowed) taxpayer monies to buy more and more votes, and damn America (as a certain Chicago preacher puts it so eloquently) ... hum....? Hey, there’s a strategy here! Eureka! (And how anybody with two degrees from recognized colleges could recommend something so otherwise-bogus... is not believeable. It is the Re-election strategy at work here, folks. Plain and simple. Hope. Change. Redistribute! Forward! Or?

This is just what I have been waiting for. As an employer I have been waiting to hire new people until I could pay them more. Thank goodness somebody finally gets it.

You have to be a special kind of stupid to believe this stuff.

Can anybody explain where in the HELL the Constitution grants Congress the power to set the minimum wage?

Senator Harkin needs a permanent return trip to the dreaded private sector. Voters of Iowa, please take note.

she’s a kook, raising the minimum wage will mean fewer employers can afford employees. These people are completely nuts.

I'm guessing the Commerce Clause. Remember if it moves across states lines it's interstate commerce, if it doesn't move across states lines it's still interstate commerce, if you don't sell it or move it across state lines it's still interstate commerce.

Minimum wage laws define the value of a dollar (same way “gold standard” currency works). A dollar is now worth about 9 minutes of mundane labor (work which pretty much anyone can do with negligible training). As such, prices are such that the the relative inherent value is reflected by a dollar amount; say, a gallon of gas is worth about a half hour of floor sweeping, and the price of both is around $3.50. Raising the minimum wage serves only to reduce the value of a dollar; a gallon of gas will still be worth about a half hour of floor sweeping, whether the numeric value of both is $4 or $400 - raise the number on one by fiat, and the number for the other will increase to match thru normal market principles.

I wonder if Ms. Owens got her research from this story:

wack job she is.

If anything, minimum wage should be cut. A raise in minimum wage creates inflation, the same as a hike in gas prices does.
