France May Have Elected François Hollande, But She Really Needs A Napoleon Bonaparte By Tim Stanley May 6th, 2012
Hollande is the latest in a long line of French politicians to exploit the mob. It looks like Socialist François Hollande has won the French presidency. His platform: raise taxes on business to fund a lower retirement age and more spending. Things dont look good for poor old France. Either Hollande will stick to his promises and ruin the economy or hell U-turn and reveal himself to be a reckless opportunist. Whether he's a fool or a knave, this election cycle has exposed just how broken the French political system is.
The kind of economic reforms that are necessary to put the country back to work simply cant be enacted under the present arrangement. France needs to change. She needs another Napoleon.
Ever since the French Revolution of 1789, the French have struggled to keep a constitution going beyond two or three generations (theres a reason why la grande dame is on her fifth republic). The cause is the imbalance between government rooted in law and the free expression of mass democracy. On the one hand, the French revolutionaries wanted to create a government that limited powers and liberated the economy (one of the first things they did was abolish serfdom and end regulation of the grain market). On the other hand, to give the new government legitimacy they acknowledged the political authority of the Parisian mob. What was the point of democracy if children starved? The policies passed by elected delegates had to be rubber-stamped by the sans-culottes.
The result was that within a few years of the revolution, the constitution (by far the most admirably liberal in the world) was suspended and terror was the order of the day.

No,France needs a Ronald Reagan.Alas, there are none to be seen.
France elected an Obama Clone. Can you say tailspin!
France is voting for a fairy tale where there is money that can be taxed to pay for them to be lazy.
It would be a good time for French companies to consider exiting and letting those idiots figure out how to pay for their fantasy.
There is nothing like ripping off those who provide jobs for others.
One day they decide to move on or stop the providing.
What will France do then?
The prophecies of course, generally, reflect a Francocentric bias toward the future.
We will see how the legislative elections go.
>>What will France do then?
The same thing the US will do. The entire third world is already socialist/communist. The US is socialist and leaning toward communist. Most of Europe is socialist. The middle east is fascist theocracies. Most of the far east is communist.
The providers have no place left to go. The world is that screwed! When I say “providers”, I am including all productive people and not just business owners. The parasite class at the bottom and the top of the world’s economies have just about defeated the producers/providers.
The reality is that the average European voter absolutely refuses to accept “austerity”. Why would they? Bankruptcy is a vague concept to people who have lived with three generations of deficit spending and the faux lifestyle. It is not surprising that they elect politicians who promise to keep spending and provide the goodies. But who will pay? The German are a nation of savers. They absolutely refuse to debase the currency and are reluctant to fund more bailouts. Eventually they will pivot toward the boundless resources and potential of Russia. The EU and euro appear doomed. The IMF and European central banks have already sold most of their gold to fund bailouts. What’s next? The art? Already nervous Europeans are converting their euros and capital into dollar denominated investments. This is good for the dollar and giving at least a temporary capital infusion and boost to the American economy. (lucky Obama). However the greater lesson should be noted. Deficit spending squanders capital and leads to poverty. Americans should be forewarned as things will get ugly in Europe.
Do you have a link to this prediction?
Paul Krugman tells CNN that the French elections vindicate his economic views that austerity measures stifle growth and are counterproductive. He believes in more stimulus spending as a prelude to growth. This is the vision that underlies Obama’s “Forward” agenda. The road to serfdom is paved with good intentions.
Obamunism is working so well in the USA that France decided to give it a whirl.
Please, we are talking about France. ;)
Greek results updating as well. Just as important as France i believe.
Wouldn't it be something if Nostradamus was actually referring to Harry Reid?
France has always had Obama clones in office. The current one that just got defeated was the guy who begged us elect Obama in the first place and then whined that Obama wasn't liberal enough on global warming. Can you say tailspin?
Paul Krugman is preaching to the choir when advising French socialists to spend money they don’t have. They already believe that nonsense. He needs someone to provide the funds. Does anyone really think the Germans will fund European deficit spending? After the election they will tap Obama.Gold will do well.
“It would be a good time for French companies to consider exiting and letting those idiots figure out how to pay for their fantasy.”
“The same thing the US will do.”
“The providers have no place left to go. The world is that screwed!”
I recall a book written in the 1980’s called “Hitch hikers Guide to the Galaxy”. Space aliens decided that the Earth was the most useless thing standing in the way of an intergalactic super-highway and sent a demolition crew to blow it up. The rest is future history.
