Sounds like an ignoramus police department to me. I wouldn’t call for so much revenge in kind as for a complete re-education on matters of allegedly bogus money. Plus a handsome settlement to the man who went through the hassle based on the bungle and a complete expungement of the arrest forthwith, with legal costs of that fully paid too. Now if that same PD did something like this a second time, I say get medieval on them.
This stuff happens all the time. It’s not just this department. The only time we ever hear about stuff like this is when it happens to “somebody who is somebody”. The vast unwashed get plowed under all the time and just have to take it with a smile. Most don’t vendors know it’s wrong as the slums are just sweep zones where everybody goes to jail now and then.
