Russia Threatens Missile Defense As Obama Scuttles It

National Security: Moscow threatens to strike our missile defense sites in Europe if we proceed, as missile defense advocates warn that the administration is defunding existing missiles in favor of future, theoretical versions.

'A decision to use destructive force pre-emptively will be taken if the situation worsens," Russian Chief of General Staff Nikolai Makarov said at an international missile-defense conference in Moscow on Thursday, apparently not waiting for the "flexibility" President Obama told outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that his re-election would give him.

Makarov's blunt threat referred to administration plans to deploy the SM-3 IIB, a missile still on the drawing boards that is designed to be the replacement for the ground-based interceptors (GBI) that were scheduled for deployment in Poland, but scuttled by Obama after Russia threatened to deploy SS-26 Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad, right on the Polish border.

We've heard such bluster before, and we've seen President Obama cave in and betray our allies before.

President Obama scuttled those plans when the Russians protested, substituting a more modest layered defense capable of defending Europe — but not the continental U.S. — against Iranian missiles.

Typical of the way President Obama has treated loyal allies such as Britain and Israel, the Poles were notified with a midnight phone call on Sept. 17, 2009, the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion, telling them we were pulling the plug.

Russia objects that the new system, currently ship-based, will eventually evolve into a system that could neuter Russia's strategic missile forces.

Actually, that was the idea when President Reagan launched the Strategic Defense Initiative in 1983. Our response should be, so what?

I find that incredibly hard to believe.

Obama is the Russian weapon-of-choice for this particular mission of sabotage!

Seems to me we’d be better off with our missiles in the Ukraine anyway.

We've got to know whose side Obama is on.

I want that bastard interrogated by CIA Counterintelligence. I mean, the works.
