Former Senator Trent Lott Lobbies for U.N. Treaty He Vehemently Opposed
Heritage Foundation ^ | April 30, 2012 | Lachlan Markay

Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott is lobbying for the Senate to ratify a treaty that would undermine American sovereignty and damage the country economically – incidentally, characterizations that Lott himself has advanced. During his time in the Senate, Lott vehemently opposed the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea, also known as the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), saying it would create a “U.N. on steroids” that “would undermine U.S. military operations … and impair navigational rights” by subjecting maritime disputes to U.N. authority.

Lott, Lugar, Hatch, etc, etc, etc

Wasn’t it Lott who made the comment about co-opting the Tea Party freshmen?

Trent “Judas” Lott would sell his mother for thirty pieces of silver. He is a poster boy for what is rotten in D.C,

I think Mooch-elle is trying to ban ketchup anyway. Besides Kerry “who served in VN” probably does not and never did control the money. He lives off his allowance. Republican John Heintz should have left his $ to his kids or a charity instead of setting up the witch. Of course he died young, mysteriously in a plane crash (Ron Brown’s fate?)

Here it is again.

First Inhofe talking about it. Then Schlafly. Now Trent Lott.

Maybe they will do like the START Treaty. Ratify after the elections during the lame duck session.

Since when does Phyllis Schafly support ratification of LOST?

As soon as Inhofe finds out LOST includes a backdoor carbon tax premised upon climate change, he'll drop his support.

I'm not saying she does support it. Whether she or anyone else may or may not support is irrelevant.

The fact is that they are talking about which means it is being considered

Here is the way it works.

The US needs to protect the claims of the the Philippines, Japan, Viet Nam, etc from China.

The US has spent a great deal of time and money mapping the South China Seabed and the only way to get that data into LOST is to get a seat on the LOST technical committee and the only way to get a seat on the technical committee is to ratify the treaty.

And it is not just the South China Sea. Conflicts between Russia, Canada, and Denmark in the Arctic. Keep in mind that Canada signed the treaty in 2003 because they thought the US would sign in 2004. Now Canada has to make their claims next year.

Also conflicts between Britain, Argentina, and Chile. Plus conflicts in the eastern Mediterranean.

Your post is causatively non sequitur.

The US needs to protect the claims of the the Philippines, Japan, Viet Nam, etc from China.

No. We need to protect the Phillipines, Japan, etc., and not necessarily their claims. I am not subjecting our young men to defending the potentially capricious whims of a foreign power seeking to blackmail both sides to their advantage.

This is starting to smell like O-I-L. Minerals in general, actually.

The US has spent a great deal of time and money mapping the South China Seabed and the only way to get that data into LOST is to get a seat on the LOST technical committee and the only way to get a seat on the technical committee is to ratify the treaty.

Not true. Were we to supply that mapping data to Japan et al., they could do that. Yet I can see absolutely no advantage to having the UN privy to highly classified data of significant military value. You are operating as if the treaty was already in force. Yet the US never ratified the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. So please don't give me this DOS "customary international law" garbage.

“I still contend that Lott was forced to resign in order to hush up his participation in Scruggs’s bribery of judges route to fame and fortune.”

He resigned when he did to get in before the law that disallowed former elected reps of the government to be allowed to make the big bucks for five years (?) lobbying went into effect.

“I also believe Lott should be in jail along with Scruggs. Club Fed or not.”

On that, you and I TOTALLY agree...except for the Club Fed part. Orange jumpsuits for all!

And, to think I used to defend this guy. He did something helpful for a friend of mine, though, and I won’t forget that.

Lott was knee deep in the Scruggs affair. Don’t forget, it was Lott that cock blocked the impeachment/removal of William Jefferson Clinton in the Senate. He stated that he would fight it tooth and nail. I wonder if the FBI files Hillary and Bill held didn’t also have a significant amount of material about Lott also. (Remember Bill and Hillary had over a thousand FBI files illegally and Colson went to prison for having just one of them). Lott is a scuzzball and traitor.

So Trent Lott’s gay because he has a fancy feather in his hat? Is that what you’re implying?
