Local Election Sites Seeing Light Turnout (Indiana)

Indiana will get a new look in Washington, D.C., next year, but how dramatic a facelift hinges largely on whether Republican Sen. Richard Lugar, the state's dominant political figure, survives a bruising challenge from the right.

Marion County Clerk Beth White said she expects voter turnout for the Tuesday primary to be about 20 percent, much lower than the 37-percent participation in the 2008 primary. Without a presidential primary this time around, Democrats don’t feel as much urgency to vote, White said.

For Republicans, the U.S. Senate race between incumbent Richard Lugar and Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock is by far the highest-profile race in the primary.

The 5th District seat vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. Dan Burton also is drawing interest, said White, because the redrawn district includes a larger portion of Indianapolis than in the past.

Light turnout reported in many areas, especially Bloomington, Terre Haute, etc.

Mourdock needs big numbers in the rural areas to win. I think Indy, Ft. Wayne, and Chicagoland will go big for Lugar.

I wouldn’t sweat it. From what I can glean, the light voter turnout appears to be on the Democrats’ side of the aisle.

Cheers

This morning Rush played an ad being run by Lugar......a senior citizen bemoaning the fact that she relies on her social security and implying that Mourdock would take it away from her.

A lie of course.

So one clerk ‘expects’ turnout to be light, headline becomes turnout IS light...wow.

Later in the article, it says it’s about typical for a primary. Still headline becomes turnout IS light.

wow. Someone trying to dampen turnout?????

At my polling place on the East Side of Terre Haute there was a slow, but steady, voter turnout when I was there at 10:30 AM.

This Mourdock must be a helluva politician if he can single handed eliminate social security. It just goes to show what length the RINOs will go to keep conservatives from winning and retain their stranglehold on the Republican Party.

Can any IN Freepers tell me what Mourdock’s chances are against his likely Dem opponent?

Lugar would have won the election, for sure but what about Mourdock?

Little by little, we are taking our country back from these “REPUBLICAN LITE” candidates. If LUGAR is a “CENTRIST”, then I’m a blooming alien from Venus. We have to get rid of all these SO CALLED “CENTRISTS” from our party. This LUGAR just wanted to go along just to get along, and he will compromise us out of our constitution. This should be a warning to all these “RINOS”, both in the senate and the house. Your days are numbered
