Thanks to Biden, Democrats pressed on gay marriage

Tim Kaine, a Democratic candidate for Senate and one of President Barack Obama's closest allies, met with reporters on Tuesday to discuss politics nationally and in his home state, Virginia.

And here's what everyone wanted to know: What do you, Tim Kaine, think about gay marriage?

Thus began an inquiry in which a clearly uncomfortable Kaine, a former Roman Catholic missionary, crossed his arms and, while carefully avoiding an endorsement of same-sex marriage, stressed that "I believe in the legal equality of relationships."

The scene reflected how Democratic candidates and office-holders are being drawn into the political hornets' nest that Vice President Joe Biden created on Sunday when he endorsed the right of same-sex couples to wed.

Obama and company know Romney’s record on gay marriage and have to position themselves.

Two ways to go- denounce Romney for using executive power to force gay marriage in MA, or hint that you might go along with it.

I think they are choosing Option 2.

Is it North Carolina (Or South?) I have heard Rush Limbaugh say there is one swing county there, and many think this county will decide the fate of the whole POTUS election -

And Joe Biden decides to come out for gay marriage in the midst of a marriage referendum down there???

I can’t believe we’re at a 50/50 split either. There can’t be that many utterly stupid Americans, although we seem to be slouching in that direction.

Why is it that modern philosophy escapes the disciplines of all other spheres of life and learning? Rules define just about everything in our lives and education, but they just don’t seem to apply to ethics. We all have the right to become pro-ball-players, but not many of us make it. You’ve got to have the right qualifications (like talent) along with the right. And we all have the right to become recognized or at least highly paid artists or musicians or dancers, or writers, Most of us would like to exceed speed-limits, get to the head of the line at the bank or the ticket office or the DMV; but we’re restricted not simply by “the rules” but by propriety. Somehow, the rules and propriety just don’t apply to the most important aspects of life: things like killing our own kind, but only when they’re most helpless, is okay. Or sex with someone of the same sex, never mind “marrying.” How is such an activity ever anything more than the feckless behavior of humans who have no clue to the purpose of their existence? If one can’t “mate,” how can one “marry”? Will we change the definition of “mating,” too? .
