Tea Party Upstart Mourdock Defeats Longtime Indiana Sen. Lugar
By Kim Geiger May 8, 2012 Richard Mourdock has defeated longtime Sen. Richard G. Lugar of Indiana in the Republican primary, according to an Associated Press projection, ending the career of one of the Senate’s most pragmatic politicians and casting a cloud over GOP efforts to win control of the chamber.
Mourdock, state treasurer in Indiana, campaigned as a conservative alternative to Lugar. He became a darling of the tea party movement after he began a legal challenge to the terms of the Obama administration’s bailout of Chrysler.
Mourdock was endorsed by Sarah Palin and Rep. Michele Bachmann, and Lugar had the backing of the party establishment, including Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
Mourdock will face Democratic Rep. Joe Donnelly, a three-term congressman from the South Bend area, this fall. The matchup is the preferred outcome for Democrats, who view Lugar’s ouster as an opportunity to pick up a longtime Republican seat.
"Richard Mourdock is this year's Ken Buck," said Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Executive Director Guy Cecil. Buck was a tea-party-backed Republican who upset the establishment favorite in the GOP primary in Colorado in 2010, only to lose in November. "Tonight's results make the Indiana Senate race a toss-up."

Six-term Sen. Dick Lugar, an affable and gentlemanly two-time chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and 1996 candidate for president, lost his GOP primary Tuesday night to a once little-known challenger “...aided by a coalition of national and local tea party groups”.....
Richard Mourdock led Lugar ...60.4 percent to 39.6 percent.... with more than three-quarters of precincts reporting.
Sen. John Kerry called the loss....... “a tragedy for the Senate” ....and a “blow to the institution.”

That bucket of water is needed else that campaign may falter. I think the Democrats intend to make a hard push for that particular seat.

Lugar is a great pragmatist and will endorse Mourdock, just like conservatives are being asked to coalesce around Romney. The GOPe and conservatives are one big happy family.

So much for MSM telling the American public, the TeaParty is “losing” steam.
I’m one of those. not because I like Romney, but to deny a possible Ronpaul victory where he deserves none.
After Florida, there was an exit poll that said he was pulling about half the Tea Partiers then.
Oh this is great news too....gosh.. I needed to hear these victories...my chins been bouncing off my toes since Romney took his win?..er made his proclamation...? Whatever!

Lots of Conservatives are voting for Romney in the primaries and will vote for him in November. This as been true all along. You might not like it but those are the facts.
Michelle lacked gravitas. Perry lacked presence. Cain lacked depth. Newt was untrusted and unliked. Santorum was ideologically a mixed bag and was a minority taste.
We conservatives didn't all settle on a single non-Romney candidate because they were all deeply flawed, and over the course of the primary season many Republicans, including many conservatives, settled for Romney.
It is time to stop sobbing, face facts, and start kicking 'Rat butt coast to coast and border to border.
