Senator Kirk: "I want to thank everyone for the patience and support they are giving me to recover"

oday U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) released a video outlining the progress of his recovery after suffering from an ischemic stroke in January and expressed his deep gratitude to the people of Illinois for allowing him the time he needs to recover.

"I want to thank everyone especially for the patience they have given me to recover from a big stroke," said Kirk. "[And also] to the people of Illinois for granting me the honor to represent them in the United States Senate. I cannot wait to get back to work to vote to spend less, borrow less and tax less to fix our economy." In the video, Kirk also gives thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) for helping him to regain his walking abilities. He is working to be able to climb the 45 steps it will take to get to the front door of the Senate.

Senator Kirk was first taken into care and underwent three surgeries at Northwestern Memorial hospital. Kirk later moved to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) on February 10, where he began in-patient therapy. On May 3, Senator Kirk was released from the RIC and moved home with his family.

Kirk has begun a unique, rigorous out-patient walking program for post-stroke patients at RIC. The trial is focused on improving gait pattern through an intense regimen of continuous walking on flat surfaces, stairs and a treadmill. Kirk has walked more than 10 miles altogether since he arrived at RIC in February.

No problem, Senator. We have all the time in the world and there’s absolutely no rush for you to return to the Senate to continue your “thoughtful, bipartisan” political work right now. Don’t worry about it. Take some time off and enjoy yourself after what you’ve been through. Perhaps a trip to Acapulco could be therapeutic right now. You can use all the time you need, don’t feel stressed that you need to return to work. You don’t have to run again until 2016, if you want to stay home until then, you have my blessing and full support. Please, think nothing of it.

Mark was my congressman for many years, until I left the Land of Lincoln; make that the land of Crony Capitalism. He is a liberal Republican, but a decent fellow.

He won Obama’s seat from Obama’s buttboy Alexi Giannoulis. It’s Illinois. Get some perspective.

Isn't the Senate chamber handicapped accessible. After all they passed the Americans with Disabilities Act. But then, those laws only apply to we serfs, not to the exalted members of the Senate.

Knowing the snarkiness that comes whenever his name is announced around here, I’m very glad this was posted. I’m proud of him and the way he’s working to get better. He’s still better than our other senator IMHO.

The person who held “Obama’s senate seat” before Obama was Peter Fitzgerald. The “only RINOs can win in Illinois!” crowd whitewashes that from history because it doesn’t fit their agenda. Get some perspective.

Fitzgerald only won because he ran against Carol Mostly Fraud. He had little establishment support to run for a second term and dropped out.

He was a conservative libertarian with a squeaky voice and few political skills. I voted for him and would vote for him again. However, I think you lack the perspective.

Sen. Kirk was my congressman, but I’ve never voted for him. He’s as liberal as the Democrats who ran against him, so I usually skipped that section of the ballot. In the 2006 primary, I ran against him, as a write-in candidate. The Daily Herald said that I got 144 votes, although I didn’t spend any money, on my campaign.

Nancyboy Kirk is a prime example of how Illinois became Illinois. Giannoulias is/was corrupt but that is par for the course in Illannoy. He had one foot in the political grave and the other on a banana peel. With Giannoulias as the winner, we could have nominated and elected someone worthwhile in 2016. With Nancyboy in office, he will insist on renomination and then we cannot elect anyone to that seat worthwhile until at least 2022.

Nancyboy and Dickie Durbin:

Both want to see babies slaughtered, guns grabbed, perverts doing one another and calling it "marriage," elitists satisfied, and business as usual. Yeah, that's a GREAT pair of senators we have there. At least Durbin has the excuse of being a Demonrat. Nancyboy poses as though he were a Republican. Nancyboy is better than Durbin isn't much of a standard, is it????

None of the above is "snarkiness" just the God's honest truth and you know it.

Lest I leave a false impression. I cannot stand Mark Kirk as a political figure and I eagerly look forward to his defeat ASAP. OTOH, I do not wish him ill as a human being. I shall pray sincerely to God that Kirk’s capacities be fully restored along with his health and that he have the privilege of enjoying a long and healthy life in the private sector and NOT in the US Senate or other public office.

Sorry Phil. I didn’t write you in because I thought a wishy washy liberal Republican was better than a union thug like Dan Seals.

Thank you for the second message. I don’t support many of Sen. Kirk’s position, but I certainly would never wish a stroke like this on him, and hope he will be able to recover sufficiently to continue his life. Electing conservatives in Illinois is certainly not an easy thing to do.

I agree that Kirk is slightly less liberal than Seals. I knew that I won’t get enough votes to help Seals win.

On rare occasions, even I recognize that I have been too carried away with myself. Your position was, of course, the right one. A good many years ago, I suffered a cerebral hemmorhage (I was about his present age) which left me with few symptoms in the long run. I was touched by God's healing hand and love, without deserving His generosity in any way. I would go a step further than I have and say that it is my hope and my wish that Kirk enjoy a full recovery even if, in spite of my best efforts, he continues as a Senator, even beyond this term. If that experience causes him to look at social issues in a new and very different way, so much the better, but full recovery for him regardless.

The big problem in Illannoy is NOMINATING conservatives as GOP candidates. Electing them is a lot easier.

May God bless you and yours.
