Impromptu midnight march through downtown opposing Amendment One [Ashville, NC - photos]

A group of seventy-five to 100 people staged an impromptu march against Amendment One downtown early Wednesday morning. Starting spontaneously just hours after the people of North Carolina voted to amend the state's constitution to ensure that marriage between one man and one woman will be the state's only legal domestic union, the march at times bordered on becoming a riot. Protesters chanted obscene slogans and threw firecrackers, encouraging bar patrons to join them as they marched through the streets, ending up at the Vance Monument, where the march began. Despite its rowdiness, the march remained peaceful.

After blocking the streets for much of their progress, the protesters quickly dispersed to the sidewalks when several Asheville Police Department cars arrived after about twenty minutes. A few demonstrators waited for the close approach of police, apparently to see what the reaction would be. The only officer who came to speak to the group was very polite and professional. He asked if there was something they needed from the police, and what their further plans were. The protesters were also polite and told him, no, we have already done it.

After that the group crossed to the Vance Monument. Several brief speeches were given and protesters vowed to turn their anger into action to overturn Amendment One.

A resounding majority of the good citizens of NC as well as the USA as a whole, are fed up with these 2%'ers pushing their "identity" (defined exclusively by acts of sexual perversion) as a special and therefore further entitled class of citizenship. NO SALE!

A few fancy Ashevillr as an Appalachian Berkeley. Pretty weak beer, imo.

Congratulation to North Carolina and welcome back to the real world.

Barak and Harry will be very sad today.

Asheville, NC is a beautiful city but it is one of their cities just as much as San Francisco. They are more than two percent there. The surrounding counties have more genuine mountain people and less struggling entertainment biz wannabees who are only successful in spoiling an otherwise great city.

This is not the Asheville in which I grew up. Very sad. The coming of UNC-A was the beginning of the artsy migration - along with the halfbacks.

Sounds about like Johnson City, TN. Sad how the queers mess up such beautiful areas.

Yeah I understand zero was “disappointed” in the Old North State. I am glad I was able to contribute to that disappointment.

To the marchers: sit down and shut up.

Sounds like they were all in the gay bars crying in their beer and decided to go for a walk.

What a pack of losers.

Funny though the fact that it took police 20 minutes to get there.

When seconds count police are only minutes away.

I’d always wanted to visit Asheville, but when I finally did a few years ago, I was so massively disappointed. Had no idea what it had turned into. I was expecting a bit of americana, with all the old downtown buildings and such (I love old buildings). Instead it was just an endless slew of fags and bums all over the place. After an hour, I just gave up, got back in my car and drove off and left.

They keep comparing their movement to the Civil Rights movement for racial equality in the 50s-60s. But when you look at the dignified behavior of the blacks at that time, marching quietly in church clothing, to these sexual outlaws running around half naked and making obscene gestures, there is no comparison whatsoever.

The perverts are not satisfied having their own personal perversions. They want normal decent human beings forced in to acceptance of their perversions.
Never going to happen..........

They will simply run to the men in black - I am sure their “group” is working on it as we type. The constitution be damned, that is what the men in black are for.

Very true. Upper east Tennessee-— our Southern Appalachian highlands —— simply beautiful! Pretty solidly Republican, but you know what happens when an area is “pretty solid” -— ambitious liberals cover themselves with camouflage and run as Republicans. Quite predictable, actually. (Our Senators being prime examples.)

But we’re fighting to keep the place decent.

Indeed. As black conservative La Shawn Barber has rightly pointed out, most of those church-going, Bible-believing people would be turning in their graves at the thought that their efforts to improve their lives and those of their descendants would later be distorted into saying men “must” be allowed to “marry” men and Christians must be persecuted.

Excellent observation, Albion Wilde. My husband just told me he saw a group on the street median in boring Monroe this evening, holding signs with profanities and “Repeal the marriage amendment!” I assume they’d recently arrived and would soon be evicted by the Monroe PD (plus it was getting dark), because this isn’t Asheville!
