Posted on 05/09/2012 10:32:55 PM PDT by Neil E. Wright
Its no secret that one of the largest blocs of people pressing for so-called gun control is the culturally (aka not-so-religious) American Jewish community. This confounds many observers who would expect that Jews, with such a stunning history of oppression and murder by humanitys villains, would cling tenaciously to personal firearms and the ability to protect themselves as the Hebrew Scriptures instruct.
In reaction to the Holocaust, American Jews adopted the phrase Never Again! If actions mean anything, they dont believe it. Thats for someone else to do. How do Jews expect to put teeth behind the words Never Again! if not with the ability to apply and project personal force when righteous -- and necessary -- for survival?
Why then do so many American Jews hate guns and fear gun ownership so much?
Our research identifies ten reasons why these Jews feel the way they do about self defense in general, firearms specifically and your own right to keep and bear arms.

What a pile of gobbledygook. Jews are liberals before they are Jews and even before they are Americans. There is a belief in a utopian state “of things”, and if an all-powerful government is required to enforce a utopian state, then so be it. Oops, that didn’t work out so well last time, did it? This type of short-sightedness is my own embarassment for my fellow co-religionists or whatever the word is.
I have never understood Jewish American Liberalism.
In Israel, they design good guns and don’t take no crap.
Besides a good percentage of American Jews embrace socialism, a mind set what caused many of them to end up in concentration camps, something I never could understand. I would have thought that perhaps by now most of them would have learned their lesson. I am not a Jew myself, but I am well familiar with their history and I like what a true Jew stands for and I always have and will continue to root for the Jewish State of Israel.
Here is the reason:
There are no cowboys named Goldstein... And I am almost serious.
The authors of the Second Amendment were very clear. They coupled two ideas. The right of the people to keep and bear arms and the necessity of a militia for a free state. It doesn't say anything about hunting or collecting antiques; it's about the distribution of power to the people. They saw the left and its many variations coming a long time ago.
Then again, I don’t Understand American Christian Liberals.
As a Christian myself....can there even BE such a thing? Seriously...
There are plenty of Achh Barts
The above section of the article is the heart of the matter. Korwin and the Rabbi still tip-toe around the real problem - the fact that in the United States, the *majority* of Reform Jews have abandoned their religion and supplanted it with "social justice".
Pro-LGBT, pro-abortion, pro-amnesty, anti-gun - it's all part of what now passes for their "faith". Take a look.
Not in my mind, but here I am in the USA, surrounded.
I know....it was sort of a rhetorical question...
I hear you. Liberal Jews have this problem of embracing those who screw us and screwing those who embrace us. When I was growing up in the Bronx, registering as a democrat was as sacrosanct as Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and circumcisions. Back then being a dem meant something, We have nothing to fear but fear itself, The buck stops here, Ask not what your country can do for you. My parents switched parties around the same time Pres Reagan did, and for the reason, they didn’t leave the party, the party left them.
“it never ceases to amaze me to have to explain to a Jew why he should should have ready access to a firearm”
-a phrase I have used countless times when discussing gun control with workmates, friends, etc.
I am Jewish and you are going to be shocked at how many Jews are going to vote against Obama. It will be historical. Mark my words.
In Israel, Jews are fighting for their lives.
In the US, liberal Jews are fighting for their Brie.
Some of us are armed, pro-guns, and have used them, including my son in Iraq, my late editor’s son in Israel (KIA), and a whole bunch of Jewish soldiers in Vietnam.
As a Russian Jewish emigre’ once told me about those Jews who didn’t view the Soviets as our enemies, “We too have our asses.” That applies to too many American Jews re Iran, Red China, Hugo Chavez, and the Palestinians.
The leftism of liberal Jews and some conservative Jews is due mainly to the success of Communist propaganda in the US over the past 90 years. They convinced a lot of people who hated the Czar that communists were their saviors and a whole bunch of people bought it, hook, line, and sickle. And still do, esp. in academia.
However, some are finally waking up and the shift will be noticeable in November.

Are you kidding? I have been to services (weddings, baptisms and such) at little rural Catholic churches in the middle of nowhere. The homily that the priest delivered would make Bill Ayers proud. Full of venom aimed at evil corporations, climate change deniers, the “rich”, “bigots” who can’t stomach homos, @etc. You’d think the good father’s next appointment was to Occupy The Little Courthouse In The Sleepy Town Square!
But the truth is...it made a little bit of sense then, for Jews to be liberal. The arts, helping the poor, charity. Being the underdog and making common cause with other underdogs. Now that worldwide anti-Semitism is apparently staging an alarming comeback, amazingly, only a snippet more diffuse than before WW2 yet arguably far more dangerous now with the arming and sophistication of pan-Arabism, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, now, for Jews to be libs. Yet overwhelmingly, they are.
Jews never castigated FDR for refusing to bomb rail lines leading to the concentration camps. Instead, Jews identified with the more collectivist movement that the early union movement embodied. Jews embraced America, and despite their difficult times in early 20th century US, came to embrace the utopian part of the American dream. I am of course oversimplifying. I grew up in NJ, not far from where you grew up. Voting Republican, those rich white guys, was unthinkable.
My parents were hardcore Dems until they died. It was genetically engrained in them. Despite their relatively high level of education, they didn’t know that the Dem party was the party of the KKK. They didn’t know Lincoln (a great man by any measure) was a Republican. These facts did not register. To them, all Republicans were Barry Goldwater types who wouldn’t let them into their country clubs. Not that they played golf or even were members of any other country club. It was just a well developed habit pattern borne of utter ignorance of historical fact. It was all based on this weird mishmosh of “lore”. Tribal lore, is all I can call it. That evangelical Christians might try to convert people was a worse thing than Arabs trying to slaughter people, to slit their throats. Amazing. Someone talking to you, sure, with an agenda, maybe an agenda you reject yet can walk away from or ignore, that’s more threatening than someone with a gun up your nose ready to blow your brains out.
(American) Jews act out of a complete reverence for utopianism. The world should be perfect. The underdog should be given a chance. If the underdog robs me and beats me, it’s only because he’s still an underdog after all this time and we just have to keep trying to help them. I just haven’t done enough.
The Jews have forgotten that they themselves are the most at risk underdogs.
What kind of range do you speculate, 20 to 40%, 50%?
He does not believe that does not live according to his belief .
The only place under Nazi rule the jews had a chance was Warsaw where Jews did not surrender their Guns to the Nazi's.
If just the NY diasporan Jews in FL would wake up to that level, the whole election could turn there. I just spent a few days in Orlando and other points north of there and was amazed how the real estate market is still so far down there with multiple strip malls/shops empty. Guess they got the hopey/changey they voted for...
I pray so! I long to see depressed anchor-liberals on Election Night.
Hildy, I pray you are correct.
The Jewish State of Israel was founded by socialists, has oppressive government, high taxes, free healthcare, runs communes even.
Jews seem to enjoy conflict, possibly seeking it out for entertainment purposes. Jews like being lawyers and the constant battle between sides that entails. They enjoy living in the Middle East surrounded by enemies. It's high drama and they usually win the game. But being in the ring, they like guns not being involved. They want it to be a battle of wits, words, and rules, not armed opponents which are too random and unpredictable, in other words not fun to deal with.
Similar to the reason Black women want to be fat. Skinny and fit reminds them of when they were slaves. ;>)
And they understand the what it means to say “Never Again”.
And they understand what it means to say “Never Again”.
So many early Jewish immigrants identified rich (and not so rich) Republicans as their oppressors. I would think that image has never changed, even as many Jews moved into the ranks of the well-off.
A new word for me -
shomrim - The watchful. The unobserved guardian.
“To them, all Republicans were Barry Goldwater types who wouldnt let them into their country clubs.”
Barry Goldwater? What kind of name is Goldwater?
Barry Morris Goldwater was born in Phoenix on New Year’s Day, 1909, three years before Arizona was admitted to the Union. He was the eldest son of Baron and Josephine Williams Goldwater, and the grandson of “Big Mike” Goldwasser, a Jewish immigrant from an area of Poland that was then ruled by the Russian czars. Although Jewish on his father’s side, Mr. Goldwater was raised in the Episcopalian tradition of his mother.
“Big Mike” Goldwasser left Poland at the age of 14 and went first to London, then to California and, in 1859, to Arizona where with his brother, Joe, operated a trading and mercantile operation in Prescott. In 1896, Baron Goldwater — the surname had long since been Anglicized — opened a branch of the family business, M. Goldwater & Sons, in Phoenix. The Goldwater stores would remain in family hands until 1962
Unless someone has a Jewish mother, they aren't Jewish. Children usually inherit their brain DNA from their mother, their ambition from their father. It isn't a 50/50 combination. The DNA machinery selects only DNA from the mother for some things, only DNA from the father for others. Nature uses females as the genetic baseline for brains, and expendable males for experiments. Consider Barky's source of brains and his source of ambition.
There is an element of truth in that.
I was raised Catholic, and there was still a lot of resentment of Catholics when Kennedy got elected. A Protestant neighbor asked me one time if my parents had to vote for Kennedy because we were Catholic. I was only ten at the time, and I told her I didn't think so. Attitudes sure have changed (mostly) for the better since then. The people who were accused of being racist and bigoted then (conservatives) are now less bigoted and racist than today's liberals. What a turnaround.
“The Jews have forgotten that they themselves are the most at risk underdogs.”
Now as much or more than ever.
The list in the articled is by no means a strictly Jewish phenomenon.
Roth was a prime example of mid century Jewish thought. But they are dying off.

I think you hit on part of it here.
For generations following the Diaspora, Jews settled in a given region at the behest of the local king or prince, who usually welcomed them for their commercial skill and intellectual ability, but would expel them in a heartbeat if they became more problematic or “inconvenient” than they were worth.
They were under the “protection” of the local ruler, yet there would still be pogroms once in a while. Sometimes they erupted outside of the local lord’s control, other times with his tacit approval...either to allow the locals to vent steam and direct their frustration away from its real cause (their rulers), or to quietly remind the Jews who was in charge. Being a tiny percent of the population, they stood no chance of successfully standing up against their distrusting/resentful neighbors...and, I’m sure, over generations many of those who were genetically inclined to fight and resist were eliminated.
Centuries of living like this, in my opinion, served to breed a sense of servility and helplessness into European Jewish culture.
Consider the old story of why the circus elephant can’t pull the stake holding its chains out of the ground...everything in its whole life, from infancy, told it that it couldn’t be done, indeed it was dangerous to try.
Likewise, generations of living as a minority, dependent on the goodwill of the local king and knowing that your neighbors would wipe you and your family out given the chance, bred a sense of “obey and depend on your earthly rulers, don’t even THINK of standing up to threats on your own” into European Jewish culture, and has passed it down to today’s generations.
