Indiana Republican Senator Dick Lugar lost his primary bid yesterday. The spin is amazing.
Obama is spinning it to frame the new Republican party as uncompromising. The reality is the opposite. Republicans have been compromising for years. Its the Democrats that dont compromise. Fortunately for Republicans, I think that Democrats will lose the spin wars, and are totally misreading the election.
The spin is designed to try and get any one in the middle, if there is truly such a thing.
The liberal Chicago Tribune misses the point as well, and shows it is really good at eating from the Axelrod spoon that feeds them. Lugar lost not because he compromised on issues like national security and foreign policy. Lugar lost because he compromised on financial issues. He also has been there for 36 years. 36 years. Maybe its time for new thinking? A seat in Congress isnt a permanent position.
The big issues this campaign are going to be Obamacare and how a candidate voted on financial issues. The Democratic Senate candidate from Indiana voted for Obamacare, for all the bailouts, and for higher spending and taxes. That is directly opposed from the mood held by the majority of the national electorate. Social issues take a back seat when you cant find a job.
The Tea Party from its inception has been about fiscal accountability. Stop spending. No where do you see social issues, or foreign policy issues at the forefront of a Tea Party meeting. The old Republican lions of the Senate and House are being retired because they are out of step with this new line of thinking illustrated by people like Paul Ryan.
Trent Lott is now lobbying for a treaty that he firmly opposed as a sitting Senator. He will say his thinking evolved. However, I just think his checkbook evolved. Todays electorate wants people that stand firm on principles-fiscal restraint principles being at the forefront.
Lugar hasnt had a recent voting record that was stellar when it came to conservative fiscal principles. You cant talk a good game and not vote a good game. The US is close to a financial cliff. The net present value tables of future liabilities are unbending. Unless we stop profligate spending now, we are doomed.
Lugars Republican opponent Richard Mourdock has said he will be a fiscal conservative if elected. I hope he gets elected so we will have a chance to find out. Sometimes politicians change their tune once they get into office. They worry about re-election rather than the things they campaigned on. We know his opponent isnt a fiscal conservative.
This is a nationwide phenomena. Michigan has a Republican governor and legislature. In Wisconsin, Governor Scott Walker has followed through on campaign promises and is popular with a majority of the electorate. Yesterday, in the recall primary election Walker received more votes than his Democratic rivals. It will be a tough fight, but I think Walker will keep his seat as Governor of Wisconsin. Thats a good thing because one of the major fiscal problems our country, states and cities have is public employee unions.
On a different but similar vein, I am in favor of term limits for all elected officials.
I honestly hate these establishment RINOS worse than the liberals. The RINOs are the cancer within the GOP and they all need to pack up and retire. They had a good run, but time for the conservatives to rise to power and leave the compromising politicians for the history books.
You can’t talk that way about “Richard Nixon’s favorite mayor.” People in IN might vote him out, oh, they surprised us and did vote him out.
If people in Cali or New York want to elect RINOs, that’s their business. Why do they insist everyone else do the same?
I noticed a header that sked “Is The Tea Party Back?” It never left. The GOP elite, however, has left the Conservative base and will sit up and take notice or be Lugarized.
Frankly, the stuff they “get done in Washington” is the CRAP we are trying to stop.
Go away Lugar. Do us all a favor and keep us from paying more tax dollars in the form a pension and off yourself you self-centered, egotistical A$$HOLE!
Well... now that you call me on it I'll have to admit that I've never met the guy, but around here a politician who would keep a home in D.C. and not his home state, and then charge his constituents for his hotel bill when visiting would be a good example of an "@-word".
Your call, though, he's your soon to be ex-senator.
You Hoosiers have a very peculiar idea of "polite courtesy."
Good for them that they did vote Lugar out. Many of these politicians ( ALL democrats included) have sold out America. These politicians and our own government(s) are the enemy of the people. But this is a great victory for freedom, voting this cretin Lugar out.
Marixms, Yes what would you call Lugar’s ( and all democrats) favoring that government do so many things?
Being unfortunately situated between Ohio and Illinois, we Hoosiers have learned to exhibit a facade of civil courtesy to those with whom we disagree.
Politics as usual?
Marxism: the system of economic and political thought developed by Karl Marx, along with Friedrich Engels, especially the doctrine that the state throughout history has been a device for the exploitation of the masses by a dominant class, that class struggle has been the main agency of historical change, and that the capitalist system, containing from the first the seeds of its own decay, will inevitably, after the period of the dictatorship of the proletariat, be superseded by a socialist order and a classless society.
C'mon. Is that what's in Lugar's head?
I believe in the Republican President Ronald Reagan Quote “Government is not the solution to our problems . Government IS the problem”.
That might be statism or socialism, but without the class struggle, the materialistic interpretation of history, the dialectic, the expropriation of private property, the withering away of the state and all the other Marxist concepts, it's not Marxism.
And this Lugar Creature and all democrats certainly believe that and so they are Marxists.
Lugar was in politics. Government is what he knows. So it's what he concerned himself with. That doesn't mean he didn't value private property and free enterprise, any more than a soldier or policeman doesn't value private property or free enterprise because he works for the government.
Lugar voted for tax cuts, against the stimulus, and against Obama's health care plan. He voted to cut out some programs and initiate others -- anybody in politics who's halfway responsible would. Lugar may have been wrong on guns or abortion or immigration, but that doesn't make him a Marxist.
I believe in the Republican President Ronald Reagan Quote Government is not the solution to our problems . Government IS the problem.
In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden.
Reagan wasn't an anarchist, not even a libertarian. He found common ground with Richard Lugar and was able to work with him.
"Dick Lugar has earned my personal respect. A man of matchless honesty and integrity, and perhaps the Senate's leading intellect. He took on some of the toughest assignments we had, and he was there with solid advice whenever I needed it. He is a great Hoosier and a great American." -- Ronald Reagan
Me: In 99% of the crises, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.
I'd think Reagan agreed with me and do you agree with me?
I think socialism and marxism are one and the same . but you admit Lugar is a socialist. I just believe all democrat politicians and most of the politicians are corrupt Marxist bastards ( to paraphrase a Sarah Palin Quote) What is her exact quote ?
The fact is that socialism = comuunism = Marxism = liberalism = progressivism = democrats or progressives or whatever label they say to confuse us . They are all just damn communists.End of story.
This is how they change terms like global warming changes to climate change, how communist changes to liberal to progressive etc.
