PHOENIX (AP) -- Federal authorities sued America's self-proclaimed toughest sheriff Thursday after months of negations failed to yield an agreement to settle allegations that his department racially profiled Latinos in his trademark immigration patrols.

The U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit marked an escalation in the agency's civil rights investigation of Joe Arpaio and puts the dispute on track to be decided by a federal judge.

"Marked" for court dismissal because of frivolity.

Eric Holder wants to deflect attention away from himself, and he surely wants to try and silence Sheriff Joe.

We may be headed for some tough decisions for all of us.

It is certainly not past the capacity of this President to cause civil strife to try and retain power. But I do not believe though that we should let Sheriff Joe go down.

They will try and use him as an example to silence all of us.

I bet if 20,000 citizens showed up to support him and stand between him and Holder's minions, it would make the difference. If Holder's people tried to get too rough on us, Joe's people would intervene and arrest them.

If Obama racheted it up a notch, I believe the Governor of Arizona would too.

I pray it does not come to that, but I learned at the Klamath Basin Water Crisis that this is the type of thing we have to be willing to do if we do not want truth and what is right bowled over.

Sheriff Joe won’t back down and will end up making a public mockery of Holder and his entire department. I predict that no action will be taken. They’re afraid of him.

Time to tell Holder to go to hell. Arizona will be the first State to tell the feds if the case is upheld you enter our State you will be arrested.

What an evil bigot. Everyone knows that Icelanders are the most common people trying to sneak into the US from Mexico.

I wonder what discovery Sheriff Joe would be entitled to if this does move forward? Not that this DoJ would comply, anyway.

Yeah! They sneak in with the intent to board and hijack our airliners.

This is one of those fights I'm looking forward to. You mess with the bull you get the horn. Sheriff Joe for head of Department of Justice!

Does anyone know the rights of the state with this kind of situation? What can the state do about this witch hunt?

I don’t know anything about the law, really, but I would bet that Holder is going to use the open case against Arpaio to avoid turning over documents to the Supreme Court in the case against the state of Arizona.

Arizona’s Gov. Jan Brewer needs to step up to the plate here and use the power of her office to support the Sheriff.

If she does not, she is part of the problem.

Everyone knows that Icelanders are the most common people trying to sneak into the US from Mexico.

But asking if one is from Iceland is profiling and
you’ll get charged, makes a lot of sense huh.

Sheriff Joe is one of my heroes in life. This baseless lawsuit will quickly disappear, like every other baseless charge brought against AMERICA’S TOUGHEST SHERIFF...Go Sheriff Joe.
