Democrats Having Second Thoughts About Convention In NC(It is all falling apart for the Democrats!)
National Journal ^ | May 10, 2012 | George E. Condon Jr.

Posted on 05/10/2012 12:22:21 PM PDT by AmonAmarth

Democrats who already were queasy about the site of their national convention could be excused after Tuesday's election in North Carolina if they asked, "Tell me again just why we're going to Charlotte this year?" In fact, many Democrats privately are asking exactly that after the state's voters overwhelmingly approved a measure outlawing not just same-sex marriage -- which already was illegal in North Carolina -- but also any form of civil unions. Almost immediately after the vote, more than 20,000 people signed a "move the convention" petition being pushed by a New York group called Gay Marriage USA. And Twitter accounts lit up with hundreds of angry tweets demanding the party pull out of Charlotte.

Think about this.

After three years of the dim party ruling against the will of the American people, there are not many places where they would be welcome.

Add to that all the economic damage the Party would be doing to a democrat lead state by pulling out.

Seems like baraq has really put the Party in a difficult position. Bet they are appreciative after all the water carrying they have been doing for him. Hope they pay him back somehow.

They shouldn’t have any trouble finding an alternative location. There are 56 other states to choose from, after all.

Isn’t the gov of NC a big lib dim?

She already decided not to run for re-election this year.

"For the good of the..." etc etc etc, spin it however you'd like. Reality? She was going to get her head handed to her in a bag by the electorate.

They should hold it in Washington DC. After all, that's the home of the Democrat's true constituency.

Looks like the Democrats have decided to divide-and-conquer themselves.

but also any form of civil unions

I believe that is incorrect. Did not the Amendment allow for contractural relationships, the essence (npi) of a civil union?

I suspect that the various state parties have millions in reservations, there is some sort of deposit on the venue, etc. Plus, trying to negotiate new accomodations will be brutal.

As there are 31 states who have similar laws on the books, their pickings are slim on where to go. Only 19 other states if I do the math, however 26 if you let Obama count.

Even though the Democrats failed to vote on a budget and a number of other pet Democrat items when they had full control I don’t doubt their ability to find an alternate convention site even at this late hour.

Please move, please, please, please, you don’t need NC in this election go ahead do it.

In all due seriousness the Dems will say that they’ll move the convention as a token to the marriage issue, and will go forward with keeping it NC. Moving the convention at this point would be suicide and they know it, then again I could say the same thing for the marriage issue, but what can I say? Stupid and evil are a deadly combination.
