Almost 80% of California eighth grade students failed the National Science Test.

About 22 percent of California's eighth-graders tested on a national science test passed, ranking the Golden State among the worst in the nation, according to figures released Thursday.

Scores from the 2012 National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the Nation's Report Card, show that too few students have the skills that could lead to careers in the field, educators said.

A comment on the story—

“14000 is a huge sample size. Using a total population of 3 million a confidence level of 99% (extremely accurate) and a confidence interval of 1 requires a sample of 16549 students. The superintendent is a liar or doesn’t know anything about statistics or both.”

Maybe that is why California is in 47th place in science.

The teachers do not know the subject.

“Didn’t Al Gore fail a college science class?”

I heard that Algore took only one science class in college. He took the easiest class available, general science, and got a D. If he took chemistry or physics he probably would have flunked.

The did - and that is why they failed - because they “BELIEVE” in Global Warming! That isn’t science.

California needs to spend more money on education, isn’t it obvious?!

They need lower teacher to student ratios.

Any teacher will tell you that

I’m not advocating this but if the test were printed in Spanish, maybe the students would’ve done better

It's a misleading headline since it talks about all California students. However there is a chasm between the scores of private/parochial school and the government education camps.

Meanwhile my fifth grade son whop attends a private Christian school designed his own electrolysis experiment to extract chlorine from salt water. He went through a trial and error process until he had success and then went back and identified the contaminants and precipitates in his failed trials and explained why those reactions occurred.
