Romney: Gay couples should have right to adopt
The Washington Post ^ | May 10, 2012 | Felicia Sonmez

Posted on 05/10/2012 6:38:57 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) said Thursday that he believes gay couples should be allowed to adopt children, even as he reiterated his view that marriage is defined as a relationship between a man and a woman.

In an interview with Neil Cavuto of Fox Business Network, Romney was asked whether he believes the gay marriage debate is a new civil rights movement, as some Democrats have framed the issue.

“I don’t see it in that light,” Romney responded. “I believe my record as a person who has supported civil rights is strong and powerful. At the same time, I believe that marriage has been defined the same way for literally thousands of years by virtually every civilization in history and that marriage is by its definition a relationship between a man and woman.”

He added that “if two people of the same gender want to live together, want to have a loving relationship, even want to adopt a child — in my state, individuals of the same sex are able to adopt children. In my view, that’s something which people have the right to do, but to call that marriage is, in my view, a departure from the real meaning of the word.”

I guess I was being sardonic and facetious, hoping for a Russian style plane crash or Asian style bird flu.

Last time I checked, none of this was in the job description for the Commander in Chief of the United States Armed Forces. Let’s see.... Article 2... hmmm.. no governance of laws of measurements or legal definitions there... CIC, treaties, SOCTUS, yea.. gay stuff.. nope..

You Don’t even want to know... from classes to years of evaluations. And we are in a Conservative state. Like in most states you have to be dependent on the government to be part of the government (ie foster) system.

Then you realize the agenda of the state is not to let kids in the foster care system be adopted. A very few are allowed. Most kids though are stuck in a system where Mommy Rules and has years to get her act together. In the mean time the kids stay in homes in strangers in many cases.

Families used to take on this responsibility BUT it has become quite dangerous to do so in these times. For example grandparents taking in kids to their homes lets say their grandkids in most states must also qualify as foster parents. But the birth mother still calls all the shots. I know many what they call kinship foster parents who have had their lives threatened, their home threatened, legally harassed, stalked, the kids threatened by the birth parents and the Childrens Services sits on their tails.

The answer isn't allowing gay couples to adopt. The system is dysfunctional enough with out that factor nor do kids going through the trauma of being placed in state custody need the added stress of gay parents.

Romney and Obama are pushing the same perverted agenda. I've saw quite a few younger straight couples in classes wanting to adopt. The instructors basically say forget it that is not the agenda. If states will return kids back too abusive parents it stands to reason they have no qualms about turning them over to those of alternative lifestyles either. No foster kid needs gay foster parents.

“The wait for newborns in the adoption is 6-10 years, depending on the state. The cost is around $20K. The demand side of the equation isn’t the problem.”

Cannot comment on the availability of new borns but various states have Baptist Children’s Homes. Fees are based on income, the less of it you have, the less you pay. Here’s the one in your state:

http://www.bchfamily.org/

No where near $20K and they do not adopt children to known homosexuals. They can do this while some Catholic agencies have had to fold because they do not and never have, accepted any government funding, therefore the government cannot threaten them with fund cut off.

You need not be Baptist to adopt from them either.

This could be THE winning issue for Romney and the GOP and they’re going to gift wrap it for Obama and the Dems. Absolute morons.

Well, Obamacare is "off the table" too, since romney is the original author of it.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) said Thursday that he believes gay couples should be allowed to adopt children

When I first read the title of this thread I thought that this was just another decades-old quote from Romney past as a liberal New England governor dredged up by the media. I didn't intended to click on it since I have been doing my best these last few weeks to ignore these articles so that I will be able to hold my nose in November and vote for Anyone-But-Obama.

Now that I can see that this is a current quote from today, however, I'm done. I have changed my mind. Mitt Romney will do far more damage as a liberal Republican president to the country in the long-term than Barack Obama will do as a liberal Democrat president. I hope that with a Democrat president we will have a better chance of maintaining control of the house. My remaining efforts in this election cycle will be at the local, state, and congressional level. I won't vote against Romney, but I can not longer vote for him.

Looks like ol' Mittens is a fixen to do the RINO swan dive. I wonder how all those "he can win" Republicans are feeling now? I'm praying for a floor battle that goes to the mat.

You just blew it Mittens. I'm from California. I don't have to vote for Romney to get rid of Zero.

“Spare us the Pelosi style pontificating. Jesus talked about hell and He never meant for his teachings to be twisted into a justification for an anything goes attitude.”

Wait I think I remember something Jesus said; oh yes, something like: Judge not lest you be judged.

I won’t watch the debates, convention or any political shows, etc. Disaster, thy name is Mitt.

It started with Clinton for me. When he came on, I'd quickly change the channel. Then Obama came along and it was the same thing, I just could not bear to watch or listen to either one of them, it made me nauseous.

Now Romney is affecting me the same way. He makes me want to puke.

There is a surplus of good people willing to adopt who are heterosexual. Also state mandates for homo adoption force Catholic adoption agencies out of business.

My wife and I have been legal guardians for two children, now ages 12 and 13 for the past 4 years.

Our final adoption hearing to adopt them is at 1:00 P.M. tomorrow, in the Tazewell County court house in Pekin, Illinois. I expect all to go well and I'll be writing a vanity post (with pictures) tomorrow night.

Wanna be pinged to it? They are a wonderful 13 year old girl and her 12 year old brother.

From a fellow adopter, congrats two times over and thank you both for going through that long process to make such a huge difference in these kids lives. You have honored God and he has blessed you.
