Trayvon Martin's mom tapes Mother's Day appeal against 'Stand Your Ground' laws

The mother of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old whose death in Florida earlier this year ignited a controversy over "Stand Your Ground" self-defense legislation, taped a Web video in time for Mother's Day to advocate for policy change.

In the video, released Friday by the Second Chance on Shoot First campaign, Sybrina Fulton urges viewers to send Mother's Day cards to governors nationwide, particularly in the 26 states that have passed "Stand Your Ground" laws, urging them to "re-examine" the legislation.

"This will be my first Mother's Day without my son, Trayvon," Fulton says in the video. "On Sunday, I'm going to say a prayer for other mothers across America who share this unbearable pain. Just like me, 30,000 mothers lost their children this year to senseless gun violence. Nobody can bring our babies back, but it would bring us some comfort if we can spare other mothers the pain that we will feel on this Mother's Day, and every day for the rest of our lives."

I think the real reason the left hates these laws is that it ends a potential source of revenue for the race hustlers. Most of the stand your ground laws include a provision that gives the shooter immunity from civil liability if the shooting is ruled justified. Cynically the left realizes they need a certain number of martyrs, as long as they stand to profit from their deaths.

I’m happy Zimmerman cleansed the gene pool of this friggin piece of $hit predator. I would have done the same. I hope to meet Shabazz and send him to hell in a bucket.

I’ve got a bad feeling she is going to turn into a “Cindy Sheehan” and ride this tragedy for all its worth. She will probably be running for office in a few years after she sells her book and gets money for speaking engagements.

She should have picked a better man to be his father, as well.

It seems that those opposed to “stand your ground” are saying that black thugs are entitled to intimidate, assault and kill people without facing resistance.

I don’t understand how even Sharpton and Jackson can be getting any traction with this. A wanna be Thug, punk, would be murderer gets what he deserve and the whole country at least the Main Stream Media, goes crazy over the victim who survived.

I love Stand Your Ground laws. It means that Zimmerman will walk and not be exposed to civil suits. Unless there are facts not in the public view there is no way Zimmerman should have ever been in custody or have ever had any criminal charge filed against him. Stand Your Ground laws also mean that crooks will be taken out of circulation, not by serving a few years behind bars, but by being dead. Violent crooks who kill and wound victims deserve to die. They deserve to die when they commit their crimes not 30 or 40 years later in their old age.

When Zimmerman killed Martin I felt some sorrow for Martin because who wants a young man dead. I have changed. Knowing what I now know, that Martin was a violent thug, a burglar and a dope peddler I realize that Zimmerman did society a favor. He should be receiving an award for the service he provided to the community of honest, hard working people. Just imagine all the crimes that will not be committed now because Martin is dead, just imagine all the violence and pain that people will not have to suffer simply because the thug Martin is dead. Just imagine all the money that will not be spent on courts and jails to keep Martin.

The shame is not that Martin is dead, the shame is that Martins parents didn’t raise him any better. I do hope Martin felt fear and pain as life was leaving his body.

I have a feeling that there will be more “Stand Your Ground” laws in more states, not less.

Thank you Mr. Zimmerman.

Seems to me that this is a defacto admission that her son was the aggressor and placed Zimmerman in a position where “Stand Your ground” applies. Just a thought.

True. SYG is irrelevant unless Trayvon attacked him.

“Hmmmm, didn’t her offspring sit cold on a slab for a few days before he was even claimed?”

Perhaps “mom” was too busy being laid by her lover “du joir” to give a shyt?

If you had been a better parent, your kid would be alive today. If his dad had been a better husband and you had been a better wife, you would have still be married and better equipped to raise your kid better. Trying to blame George Zimmerman and some “LAW”, is frankly embarrassing.

Take your grief home with you and shut up.

That guy needs less Snapple and Skittles and a better haircut.

Snapple and Skittles are probably thinking, “why oh why does this fat man chose our products?”

Trayvon's mother w/Trayvon and other son. Note the missing family element, and the choice (or lackthereof) of attire.

Citizens with no criminal record should be able, at will, to carry, concealed or open, any firearm they please, hand gun or long gun, anywhere they please without let or hindrance by government authorities.
Self defence is a right that can not be taken away. Even a new born baby will try to defend it self. A baby in the womb will try to avoid the forceps tearing it apart. A rabbit will fight the wolf that has it cornered.

Just think what a wonderful world this will be when we OUTLAW all the guns and NOBODY will ever die again, cuz it’s the guns that kill people. That’s the only way people get dead... guns and evil SUVs.

How much would the ‘stand your ground’ rules mean to a man whose head was being slammed against the sidewalk?
