Israel will not be invited to NATO's May 20-21 summit in Chicago, the alliance's top official said Friday. But he denied that alliance member Turkey had blocked Israel's participation.
Instead, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the reason is because Israel does not participate in NATO's main military missions.
News reports have claimed that Turkey blocked Israel's participation because of the raid in 2010 by Israeli troops on ships heading to Gaza in which eight Turks and a Turkish-American died.
NATO has a system of partnerships with dozens of nations across the globe such as the Mediterranean Dialogue, a NATO outreach program with seven friendly nations, including Israel.
In the past, partner nations did not usually attend the alliance's summits. But Fogh Rasmussen said 13 would do so this time.
"At the Lisbon summit (in 2010), we made clear that we would enhance dialogue and cooperation with partner nations ... because in today's world security challenges know no borders, and no country or alliance can deal with most of them on their own," he told journalists.

Shun and ignore Israel, the only Democracy in the Middle East and the only country with the willingness, courage and brains to take out Nutjub's threat to the nations.
But include such military powerhouses such as "Sweden, Switzerland, Qatar, Georgia, Australia and New Zealand." ROTFL!!!
I hereby formally wish to extend an invitation to the nation of Israel. I personally don’t understand why they would want to be there but I and my nation are friends of Israel and we decide who comes, not NATO.
It is going to be a cluster f*** any way.
Obama endorses the OIC’s “UN” while denying the greatest leaders of the Free World who champion democracy in the face of the muslim world, Israel.
It used to be that America championed those values, democracy, freedom rights and liberty..... not what Islam and the OIC and MB profess.
Probably will be less violence in Isreal than Chicago anyway.
For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty [...]And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon (Rev. 16: 14, 16)
Yep, and per Joel 3 as well.
This could be one more example of the hardening of the hearts of the Lord’s enemies in preparation.

I didn’t understand why they would be invited, since they aren’t part of NATO. Looking at your list, it would seem that quite a few countries are pretty far from the North Atlantic (as though they needed to include former Warsaw Pact countries so they wouldn’t be so...Warsaw Pact).
If I were a nations leader I would avoid Chicago completely.
Something evil lurks there.
Some real powerhouses in there, NATO is fading into irrelevancy.
“Israel is preparing to go it alone.”
Nope. Netanyahu just signed an agreement with a major player in the Middle East. Israel is not alone.
See # 14; I was wondering more about Albania geographically than militarily, but you have a good point.
Yes, I looked closer at the list too. Beyond northern countries it looks like any European country can be in. Israel does not fit in geographically, plus a lot of those Europeans countries are anti-Semitic.
That makes sense since NATO was to counter the Soviets in Europe. But these days it seems like it is not much more than another diplomat’s club where the members whine & dine and Uncle Sam picks up the tab.
The issue attendees. Attenging but left off your list,
