This case is a frightening example of what can happen when a photographer encounters ignorant bullies with badges. According to the complaint filed in Federal Court, Nancy Genovese, a mother of three, was driving home on County Road 31 past Gabreski Airport in Suffolk County. Gabreski Airport displays a decorative helicopter shell by the roadway to the public, which is visible to all who pass by.

I don't like a police state, and I'm not defending the action of the officer. But I will say that if an officer grabs your camera, then I think it will be difficult for a citizen to subsequently remove the memory card. This just doesn't ring true for me.
I have the feeling that this woman's rendition of the story may not be 100% accurate.
Plus the asking for 70 million bucks. Why didn't she just make it an even 100 million? (smirk)
If this is 10% true, there need to be public hangings.
Why did you change the title?
So, apparently this is in New York state? Not that you’d know that from the story.
I’m sorry but as a word, “liblandia” just looks dirty.
Some people need killin....
i feel that the original title did not capture anything close to what happened
What is incredulous about this?
If you have ever met a power-tripping petty tyrant with a badge you know this type of abuse is fairly routine.
I speak from experience, in more than one city and state.
If you have never met one of these putrid punks you may still believe the fairy tale that all LE have only our best interest at heart.
In fact it appears the majority now see everything in an “US vs THEM!” light.
You are either a cop, or suspect.
If the article is factual, it’s pretty clear the “sheriff” here is a liberal brown-shirt.
Hopefully he loses the lawsuit, and his job.
Only 'terrorists' the modern liberal Police State knows is 'right wingers'... I'll bet he would NEVER stereotype a black or a Muslim with that level of contempt. Time to sue?
Well - if a mod feels generous today, they might change the title to the original - per the rules.
If not feeling thus, they might just pull it.
fwiw and future ref
Not so unbelievable...Long Island, New York Police State at its F....g best! It is long past time to take our country back from the evil POS leftist freedom haters. I hope she wins big on her suit. And I hope heads roll...castration and incarceration is too good for them, but a place to start.
"Southampton" is kind of a big clue too.
But I do agree with you that all of the posts should be tagged at least with a State ID.
Long Island, NY
Assuming for the sake of argument that it is all true, if I were her, and I won, I would deduct $10 million in settlement for each policeman involved that the state agreed to fire without pay and retirement benefits. That would go a long way towards providing satisfaction.
Certainly this story must have more to it. but it is evident that common sense on someone’s part went out the window.
Too bad Whites don’t have a Jesse Jackass ot Al Sharptongue to take up case’s for them.
Police just walk all over our rights without fear of prosecution.
No relevant hits for Nancy Genovese at GoogleNews.
Do not change titles.
i had some of that feeling as well. The web site, links, and updates to the story (including the denied default judgement) appear credible. The absence of this story from ANYWHERE else is eerie.
Let’s hear it from the LEO and LEO-connected apologists here about how honorable the profession is.
There are several updates to this story on the website of the attorney’s handling this case for her. I suggest that they are worth reading...here is the link...
Some of these stories read like they were written just to yank us.
I got to the part about the $13k and ran completely out of grains of salt.
Stopped reading right there.
Kind and generous Mod on duty, I see. I advised the poster about title change. Thanks for fixing it, because FReepers are checking the story’s veracity.
I knew I had seen this story before. I think it was posted on FR at the time. A Google search of her name found this story from Aug 2009. http://www.newsday.com/sheriffs-woman-arrested-at-air-base-had-guns-in-car-1.1345260 Also this one from Feb 2011 about how the city atty. failed to file an answer to a summary judgment. http://www.topix.com/forum/city/southampton-ny/THPAMC4EQETU6HQDN This is the latest link I found, dated Mar 2012 http://www.murthalawfirm.com/updates-nancy-genovese-case
After she wins, as much of the money as possible should be deducted from the officers’ pension funds.
She sounds like a nut case, who goes to the range with their rifle, while carrying $13,000.00 in cash in their purse? This story involves so many people and agencies and odd actions, that it seems more like the conspiracy that would be needed in the JFK assassination aftermath.
“Despite the womans protests, Nancy was physically moved by the two men wearing Suffolk County Emergency Response Team jackets to another room. There, another woman who identified herself as a nurse administered, without Nancys consent, two injections into Nancys arm. One of the men held Nancys head so that she could not see what was being done, while the other man held Nancys arm down. Despite her demands to know what they were doing, no one answered her. Nancy experienced bruising and swelling in her neck and arm long after she was released from custody.
Nancy was then escorted by the two men into a cell area, where she was forced to disrobe and put on a suicide gown, consisting of a heavy, jacket-type blanket that fastens around the body with Velcro. Nancy was not permitted to wear undergarments under the blanket. Nancy was required to wear this same suicide gown for the next several days. After three days, Nancy was evaluated by a psychiatrist who determined her to be of sound and stable mind, and immediately removed her from suicide watch.”
City council meeting talking about tis case:
“I don’t like a police state, and I’m not defending the action of the officer...”
I’m sure there will be some FReepers who will be more than happy to defend the JBTs in this story.
You must have missed the several links making it clear this is very real.
“All discovery has been ordered to be complete by March 16, 2012, All dispositive motions filed by March 30, 2012, and a pre-trial conference is scheduled for April 27, 2012. If discovery stays on track and there are no settlements, a trial should be scheduled for this summer.”
Genovese was seen at the air field taking pictures on previous occasions over the past few weeks and was warned to stay away, said Undersheriff Joseph T. Caracappa.
It is the first time I have posted an article. I am still trying to get this figured out. I have commented before and lurked for a long time.
GoogleNews stinks. Try IXQ, lots of stories regarding her.
Just plug in her name. IXQ doesn’t track your IP, no cookies, etc.. I refuse to use Google!
According to the text of the original story posted, the allegation that she went there previously to take pictures and was warned not to, is a lie.
Also, what version of the event did you expect “newsday” to publish?? Certainly not hers.
Doesn’t make any of it true, at the link you posted.
I wonder what people would say if her name was Fatima or Saffiya?
great find, thanks: 7 libs scurrying
amusing as well
utube comments enlightening
IXQuick is what I use as well for anything conservative.
Junk, like Hello Kitty pics and gardening stuff, I use Bing. I just want a record that I use a search engine if someone is looking.
