Poll: Obama holds 5-point lead over Romney in Michigan
The Detriot News ^ | May 12, 2012 | Sam Baker

Among all voters surveyed, Obama led Romney 45 percent to 39.5 percent in Michigan.

Michigan was central to Romney’s success in the GOP primary. He grew up there, and his father was governor. Romney campaigned aggressively against the government's auto industry bailout, but has lately said that he deserves credit for the industry's recovery.

Saul Anuzis, a former chairman of the state Republican Party, told the Detroit News that the poll is “great news” because it shows that Obama will have to work hard to defend a state he won in 2008.

The full story says they interviewed 600 likely voters.

I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed no matter what happens.

Its easy to agree with polls that tell us what we want to hear and its easy for outsiders to forget how he “won” and its easy for outsiders to forget how insulting he was but Mitt Romney faces a serious uphill climb among conservative Michiganders.

I personally think Rick Snyder is on Mitt’s short list of VP picks which helps among the political class but not so much among voters.

That’s the case in the metro Detriot area, but there are still some Republican voting areas, espeically around Grand Rapids.

Hear hear! “Decimated” was a great word, with a colourful history — it's being (been?) destroyed by misuse.

Romney’s primary wins were primarily in Obama strongholds around Detroit. After all, Santorum won 57 of our 83 counties and 7 of 14 districts. Only one of the Santorum districts was a Detroit district, the rest went to Romney.

A poll of all voters and the guy STILL can only muster 45%.

I have a strong feeling Obummer is in trouble in the stae of Michigan!

There is a huge Muslim population in Detroit. It will be interesting how they react to Obama’s warm embrace of homosexual marriage. Muslims and homosexuals don’t play together well...

Romney hasn’t lived in MI for almost fifty years. His father hasn’t been relative there for over forty years. He is from Michigan the way Reagan was from IL. After High School he left and never went back.

What this poll shows is that Romney is not well known and Obama is very well known. If Romney is scene as the least bit of a viable alternative to Obama 90% of the undecided will either vote fro Romney, or not vote at all.

You know your wife. If you where only 45% certain that you where going to be marrried to her in November, what is the likelyhood that you would still be matrried to her.

Obama is in deap trouble. He is way below 50% in MANY important states.

Mitt was born in Detroit, so that would make him literally a native son. That doesn’t necessarily mean he will carry the state because of it. The first President Bush was born in Massachusetts but did not carry the state in 1988 or 1992. The second President Bush was born in Connecticut and lost the state both times.

The only way any of these liberal a$$ wipes ever got to office was stealing votes, voting the grave yards or in the case of LBJ death of the non liberal.

...Michigan did lose a TON of union voters. It’s really a toss up. Don’t know why people are surprised at the numbers with so many on FR threatening to not vote for Romney in the Presidential election. Michigan probably has many anti-Romney, teach-them-a-lesson, “conservatives” too.

I’m not so sure I’d foresee much of anything at this point; the two haven’t even debated, yet.

It’s going to be important that Romney comes down hard on Obama over the debt and over economic issues. I see the debt as the single best issue or Romney to use as a sledgehammer. If he’s able to say that spending no longer has any connection to revenue and that taxes can’t be raised high enough to deal with the deficits, he’s pretty much got Obama cornered.

We know voter fraud is part of their plan. First and foremost that needs to be addressed. Not sure what that would entail but it has to start with validating voter registration rosters.

It's widely known that the once-great state of Michigan has the largest muslim population in the US

(eye-roll)

The Muslim population in Michigan is about 2% and that includes black Muslims.

Most Middle-Easterners in Michigan are Christian.

There is a huge Muslim population in Detroit.

There's some black Muslims but no huge Muslim population in Detroit. It's mostly Baptist, Pentecostal, or AME there, and mostly Catholic in the SW side with Mexicantown.
