Poll: Obama holds 5-point lead over Romney in Michigan
The Detriot News ^ | May 12, 2012 | Sam Baker

Among all voters surveyed, Obama led Romney 45 percent to 39.5 percent in Michigan.

Michigan was central to Romney’s success in the GOP primary. He grew up there, and his father was governor. Romney campaigned aggressively against the government's auto industry bailout, but has lately said that he deserves credit for the industry's recovery.

Saul Anuzis, a former chairman of the state Republican Party, told the Detroit News that the poll is “great news” because it shows that Obama will have to work hard to defend a state he won in 2008.

Obama won Michigan by 14 percent in 2008, now he’s up by only five and polling 45%. This is not a good sign for DemocRATS.

What matters is likely voters.

I suspect Ubama is doing even worse among them, because a lot of Ubamabots are planning on staying home.

Whole bunch of undecideds. If this poll is close to accurate Obama might lose 40 states or thereabouts.

I don’t want Obama to simply lose. I want him and his party decimated. I want them to be treated like the parties that ran Greece into the ground.

If the November election is real close, I will attribute an Obama win to voter fraud........

Obama was leading 45.1 percent to 39.5 percent in the Glengariff Group Inc. poll, with 15.4 percent undecided; the margin of error is 4 percentage points
-snip-
The poll included telephone interviews of 600 likely Michigan voters that were conducted Thursday and Friday. It was not commissioned by The Detroit News but was provided to the paper and WDIV Local 4 by Glengariff Group.

Isn’t Romney kind of considered a “native son” in Michigan because of his Dad? I think he is expected to do a lot better than McCain. If Romney wins Michigan or even gets within a few points of winning, OH should be in the bag for him and PA may even be possible (but doubt it).

I want him and his party decimated.

I'd rather see his commiecRAT party destroyed.
Leaving 90% of them to cause throuble isn't wise.

You would have expected Romney to do far better in the primary than a tie after beating McCain in 08 by 10%

Romney is somewhat of a native son, but the connection isn’t strong. I do recall that in 2004, George W. Bush nearly won Michigan, losing by only 3% of the vote. It’s difficult, but not impossible.

I keep hearing this “Native son” crap. There aren't that many around who remember Gov. George Romney. Of those who do, many think of Ramblers.

I think that the Michigan demo has changed substantially over the years.

It's widely known that the once-great state of Michigan has the largest muslim population in the US, and I suspect that THEY think that he's one of them.

Also, probably a lot of out-migration (except for the Obama-voting welfare rats).

Yep. The old timers around here may have loved dear old dad but they know the difference between Mitt and George.

When there is an incumbent, "undecideds" are undecided about that incumbent.

In Presidential elections, "undecideds historically fall two-to-one for challenger in races with an incumbent.

I foresee a rout.

I also foresee Ubama creating a crisis that will ostensibly give him a valid reason for cancelling the November election.

We rank about 6th on the list of overall muslim population. We have a large concentration of them in one spot but NY, NJ and California are at the top of the list.

"he" refers to Mister Obama, of course.

George was done being Gov. in 1969. That’s a long time ago.
I don’t know of anyone who remembers him fondly although maybe my mom might have voted for him.

Bogus poll! It is impossible for Romney to be favored by 50% of likely voters this far ahead, as Rasmussen's polling showed today, and Zero to have 42%, and for Zero to win Michigan. It just won't happen.
