Trayvon Martinís Mother Got 8 Months of Donated Vacation Time (Martin's Family To Be Paid Advocates)
The Miami Herald ^ | Friday, May 11, 2012 | Frances Robles

The mother of slain teenager Trayvon Martin will be able to take about eight months of paid leave from her county job, thanks to the generosity of county employees.

Sybrina Fulton, who has worked at the Miami-Dade County housing authority for 23 years, collected $40,825 worth of donated vacation time, county records show. The paid time off is in addition to the nearly $100,000 the family raised on wepay.com and at rallies, which will be used to launch a criminal justice advocacy foundation in Trayvon’s name....SNIP

“They are using the money to continue the legacy of their son,” said Michael Hall, a graphic designer and marketing specialist who helped launch the Justice for Trayvon Martin Foundation. The parents created the nonprofit in March in response to their son’s killing. “They didn’t want a situation where people could say they were profiting off the loss of their son.”

Hall said Trayvon’s parents will become paid employees of the foundation, compensated for their time conducting speaking engagements and other advocacy work. He stressed that the foundation would keep Fulton and her ex-husband, Tracy Martin, at the levels of income they already made — not higher....SNIP

Tracy Martin is a truck driver, and it’s unclear whether he has been on paid or unpaid leave. He and Fulton were in England this week speaking at the University of London and were unavailable for comment.

“Don’t forget there are two people who need to be taken care of here,” Hall said. “A lot of the media focuses on Sybrina and forgets that Trayvon had a father, who lived here and co-parented.”

Hall is the unpaid interim executive director of the foundation. He expects to employ both parents and Trayvon’s older brother Jahvaris Fulton, who is working as an intern on the foundation’s social media strategy.

What part of "not profit from Treyvon's death" am I missing?

The goal is to raise $1.5 million for programs such as teaching conflict resolution to teens.
in a couple of months the headlines will read:

The legal team for the Trayvon family (Oh, from the media, you’d think the family name was Travon) has been focused on a Payday, not justice.

Looks like they are getting it, too.

Yes, after all, Trayvon was the bread winner of the family. He left behind two adult parents who can't take care of themselves.

I wonder if they'll have a fund raiser to pay all the taxes on these "gifts".

Or do the gift givers have to pay the taxes?

A .45 or .40S&W always worked pretty well for me.

I would say Zimmerman does not need conflict resolution, his 9mm resolved the conflict pretty well.

One shot with a 9mm and a kill, I would not have believed it could happen. I have been told by several friends that carry 45’s that my little 9mm (Hollow points 129gr) will not stop or kill anybody. I have read reports that 9mm hollow points do pretty good at stopping especially in light clothes.

I hope I never have to go through what Zimmerman has been going through but, I can’t see how I would have done anything differently.

If you carry you should carry ALL the time. Like I tell my wife, “if you try to guess when you will need it you are inviting disaster”.

He is going to be a community organizer. If only his dad was Kenyan!

Let me just say that if anyone pulled the same crap that George Zimmerman did, he had better be able to explain his motivatiion real quick. He has to convince me, or display his badge of authority. Weather he be CCW or not, I will be ready to stand my ground and tend to think anyone who isn’t would be stuck on stupid and an easy mark. Who cares what some LEO told me at my NW meetings? Who cares what the NW manual said? Who cares if I was watching you from car, then got out to follow on foot and moments later was in your face? Not all people are willing to be broken down so easy, like one of Joe G’s ex ho’s. And if you are, I think he’s already spokenn for.

I could care less about the deals Trayvon's parents do/don't do, etc.

ALL I care about is the travesty that surrounds the overcharging of George Zimmerman and his actually getting a fair trial. To me, Zimmerman is a worthy story - Martin's parents can settle back into the dusts of obscurity.
