I was avoiding writing this morning, and instead of cleaning my desk or sharpening pencils, I did a little calculating and figured out that on September 6th or so of this year (give or take a day or two, because of the various leap years) Jimmy Carter will have lived longer since LEAVING office than any other president in history.
Right now, Herbert Hoover holds the record at 31 years, 7 months and 16 days.
. . .
So its a great thing that he has had this opportunity, this gift of longevity, and that he has used it so well.
Its a unique legacy that he will leave. It would take a strenuous revisionist to argue that he was a successful president. A disaster might be too strong a word for his time in office, but the historical argument will be made within those margins. But in retrospect it may have been worth those four years just to get Carter into his true calling, as a former president,

Carter was a DISASTER as POTUS!
He lived long enough to see Obama destroy his legacy (Egypt-Israel Peace Agreement)
And his other legacy of being the worst President ever.
“Carter was a DISASTER as POTUS.”
He’s been a real treat since then too.
“He lived long enough to see Obama destroy his legacy (Egypt-Israel Peace Agreement)”
Obama, the man who lost Egypt, and Iraq, and probably Afghanistan, and who knows how much else.
But, Carter is probably relieved to lose the “worst president in history” title to Hussein.
Everybody does. Poor guy.
My mistake. Ford was the president who lived the longest, but not for the most time after his term ended. Still, he does get forgotten a lot.
Never forget socialism is the enemy.
“The president with the longest retirement was Herbert Hoover, who died 11,553 days after leaving the presidency. Jimmy Carter currently has the second-longest retirement, and he will tie Hoover if he lives to September 7, 2012. The president with the shortest retirement was James K. Polk, who died 103 days after leaving the presidency.”
Interesting that they are both some of the worst presidents ever. Add johnson to the list and you have the 3 worst presidents in the last 150 years, imo. If obama loses this november, he will have a good shot at beating both hoover and carter for longest retirement.
Ford was a far better man than people give him credit for. He did things I didn’t like as well, but he at least had the guts to pardon Richard Nixon and put it in the rear-view mirror.
Besides, he DID love his country and served with honor, distinction and bravery in WWII.
He didn’t deserve what the moonbat a-hole Chevy Chase did to him. Ford was a good man, a classy guy.
Carter was a disaster as president & a disaster as an ex president.
“...on the positive side, he did convince me to vote for Ronald Regan.”
In the same spirit of positivity: If not for Carter, it probably would’ve taken me longer to realize that naivete and cynicism aren’t opposites, but instead are two different stages of the same disease.
Is that a picture that had a list of the names of the Iranian people that were going to assist in the evacuation and the payout money?
should be helicopter that had names
